School fees

I was just wondering.. I've heard that in some schools you not only pay incredible school fees, but also pay for taking extra exams. So for example, you have 2 for free and for the next ones you have to pay. Does anybody heard of it too? Is that normal on universities around the world?

Re: School fees

Well yeah, colleges and private schools have tuition. The schools don't charge for individual exams, though; that would be ridiculous. I've never heard of that in any country. Maybe you're thinking of the standardized tests like the ACT and SAT, where your score determines your eligibility for admission? Those cost money, but you only have to take one of them, and you only have to do it once.

Re: School fees

In the US, the only exam I can think of that's like that is the GRE test which is about $200 to take, and allows you to get into some graduate school programs. (Further education after your Bachelor's degree). ACT and SAT tests to get into college are only about $20. That's obviously a drop in the bucket compared to tuition costs of attending a University though. They usually make you pay for your textbooks too, which can cost a few hundred dollars per semester if you can't find used ones. I was briefly considering going for my Master's degree until I realized it was going to cost over $500/credit and I would need about 40 credits. That on top of my existing student loans would have just been irresponsible.

Now I guess I just have to work more internships until companies believe that I have enough experience to hire neutral

(I'm not bitter at all, I swear roll)

Re: School fees

I think it depends on where you live, my parents didn't pay a lot for me to go to elementary, middle and high school, but for community college I think they paid a good amount.
