The Playstation Mega Topic is a place to share your love for all things Sony Playstation! Whether your a fan of PS1,2,3, the hard to find PSX-D, the portables or the upcoming PS4, this topic is for you.
But if you are a fanboy of other consoles, please dont come here to spam. It will only look bad on your part!

Playstation Info
The Original Playstation Launched on December 3rd, 1994. It was supported by Sony from 1994-2006. In total, it sold over 104.9 Million, and had a total of 2,418 Games. The Highest Selling Games were Gran Turismo 2, Resident Evil, and Harry Potter 1. The Playstation was able to play games, but in addition, you could play Audio Disks as well. Unlike other PS Consoles, Playstation is a legacy and a Sony Tradition. EVERY Playstation Console, supports PS1 games via Backwards Compatibility, even the portables through Digital Download. The Console was released in 3 Versions. The Launch Console, The Net Yaroze and the Slim Console.

Playstation 2 Info
The Playstation 2 Launched on March 4th, 2000. It was supported from 2000-2013, to when it was discontinued Jan 3rd 2013, after over 13 years supported. The console sold over 155 Million Units, making it the highest and fastest selling game console of all time. Its best selling games were Grand Theft Auto: Sanandreas, Gran Turismo 3 and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. The Playstation 2 had a total of
3857 Games Produced. It was able to play Original Playstation Software, as well as Audio CD`s and Movie DVD`s. So, it was an all in one Media Center! As well as this, the console got several accessories. Such as a Remote Control, Wireless Controller and Playstation Eyetoy Webcam, which was compatible with several games, Namely The Sims 2, and the EYE Series of games. The Playstation 2 Legacy lives on, as it is supported with Emulation on Launch PS3 units, and many Playstation 2 titles can be downloaded from Playstation Network for 9.99! The console had a total of 4 versions. The Launch Model, The PSX-DVR Model that was released only in Japan, the Slim Square model and the Current Slim Dull.

Playstation 3 Info
The Playstation 3 Launched November 11th 2006. It will be supported with Sonys Annual 10 year life cycle until 2016. The console has so far sold over 77 Million Units as of Jan 2013. The Playstation 3 is a first of Many. It is the first console to support HDMI, the first console to support Blu Ray, and the first console to provide fully user serviceable hard drives. The console has free online play through Playstation Network, support for several streaming services like Youtube and Netflix, and has backwards compatibility with playstation software. The Launch Models from 2006-2008 support Playstation 2 Software as well. The console supports user accounts, a full GUI, and much more, and the console is also intended to be a full desktop computer replacement due to its GUI, Built In Internet Browser and OtherOS support. (Discontinued 2010). The best selling games are currently, Grand Theft Auto IV, Little Big Planet 2 and Fallout 3. The console supports playback for CD,DVD and Blu Ray movies.

Playstation 4 Info
The Next Playstation was announced on Feb 20th, 2013 at a sony press conference Live. It will launch Fall 2013.

Here are the currently known information, and it will be updated as we get more info:
Name: PS4 (Official), but known also as Playstation 4.

Backwards Compatibility: Sony has stated it will NOT be backwards compatible with Playstation, Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 Format Software.

Media: Sony stated it is compatible with DVD and Blu Ray disks, but will NOT be compatible with CD-Rom Disks for Unknown Reasons.

Specs:
Ram: 8GB
Hard Drive: Removable Laptop SATA Hard Drive
Graphics Chip: Custom 2GB ATI Manufactured GPU
Connections: USB 3.0 Ports, BluTooth 2.1, WIFI,HDMI Out.

Controller

The Dualshock 4 is a new style controller for the PS4. It features a Touch Screen that replaces the START and SELECT Buttons and the screen can access the main menu during gameplay, a light at the top that flashes due to low battery, and changes different colors if your in game character is low health, and a share button that allows you to open the share menu.

Online Service
Playstation Network will be used again, and be fully free to play online. It will offer games to download, and other things like TV Shows, Movies and Demos.
Also for the first time, you can upload personal photos to your profile, set pictures, connect to facebook as your account, and more.

Operating System

The XMB From the PSP and PS3 has been removed and is now a new OS. It will show new store content, your last played games, your profile, online friends and messages all on the main screen. It is said the new OS looks similar to the Xbox 360 Operating System, and it was leaked in a recent tech manifest that the PS4 OS is built around X84BIT Linux Code to allow for easy development and make games run better then they would with the fully custom PS3 OS that was hard to develop and optimize games for.

Rumored Games from Several Trusted Sources:
Ape Escape 4 (Japan Studio Mentioned it in a tweet to an Ape Escape Fan that an un announced game with apes is in development for both PS4 and PS3.

Grand Theft Auto V (Although not mentioned, it is very likely rockstar will port the game to PS4, as the game will release on PS3 and 360 a few months before the PS4 will launch. To sell well, it will likely be ported.

Gran Turismo 6 (Not confirmed, but likely due to success in all GT Games)

Little Big Planet 3 (Not confirmed, but very likely due to success of the first 2 games.

Fallout 4 (Bethesda has allowed Todd Dellums, the voice of Three Dog from Fallout 3, to release a tweet that said he will be back to voice Three Dog in an unannounced fallout project. Likely, this is fallout 4. It is very unlikely Bethesda will release it for current gen consoles due to being outdated graphical and tech wise.

Resident Evil 2 Remake (Not mentioned or even announced, but Capcom is considering a remake of RE2, as the petition got over 40000 signatures as of Feb 1st 2013. Its likely it will be made for PS4, as Capcom has already started making several unannounced projects for PS4)

Saints Row 4 (Confirmed in 2012, however, no platforms were announced and Volition is being very silent, but it was confirmed although THQ closed, the game is not cancelled. Its likely it will be released on PC and Playstation 4 late 2013 or early 2014.

Silent Hill 9 (Konami asked Kojima Productions to develop the 9th title in the franchise for next gen consoles. The President of Kojima Productions stated he would love too. Nothing else was said after, but its likely its in development)

I guess im somewhat of a Playstation fanboy, will be getting the PS4 within the launch window for sure. Im hoping to see Jak 4 eventually hit the console some time down the line.

Don't get your hopes up. The Lost Frontier was a pretty bad platformer, and I doubt they will want to continue that direction. There was also an interview with Naughty Dog who shed some light on the situation:

They are scared.
If you had not noticed, its the "4" curse for Platform games. Lots of Sony Platformers suffered this.

Spyro 4 was terribly glitchy and failed.
Ratchet 4 deadlocked was a major change in the series, and failed.
Crash 4 got mixed reviews for various reasons.
Ape Escape 4 keeps getting canned.
Gex 4 was canned.

Probably good to let well enough alone. We already lost Theif to the constant "rebooting" *bleep*. We don't want to lose even more franchises.

Well Naughty Dog tried to reboot it in a horrible manner (making Daxter a mute AHHHH) Insomniac were able to carry on the ratchet franchise with ease creating an amazing new trilogy. They just need to come up with some good material for a new story, Lost frontier sucked mainly because they screwed up the lore, watered down the gameplay and the story was meh.
Also ive started saving for Ps4, what price you guys expecting?

Ps3 is by far my favorite this gen, but both ps2 and ps1 are better imo.

Ps2 has more nostalgia power, i never had a ps1 until the latter years of the ps gen., so for me the ps1 is just solid fun with no real nostalgic attachments tongue

What is it with you and your obsessive brand loyalty, Swaffy? I know I should probably just ignore you when you do that, but I really don't get it.

I don't think the Playstation consoles are really comparable. Of course the PS3 is objectively better than the other two generations in terms of hardware, but I don't think that's the question. And as for games, I like games on all of them, so that doesn't help me choose either.

technically, even though he said two posts above that he wouldn't choose the PlayStation, at first he just said he'd never choose the PS3 specifically.

i'd agree. not leaning either way on PlayStation vs other systems though. not enough time spent playing on them.

Okay, for one thing, "you guys" would be just me as I was the only one who said anything, so please don't blame the whole forum for this. And there's no need to overreact like that about it; it was just an observation, something I've noticed and wondered about. I was basing this on other previous comments you've made too where you fanboy over the 360 and despise the other consoles.
