Adult beverages?

AKA alcoholic beverages

breaking off from the music thread, I'm curious about this. Those of you who are of age, how many of you drink alcoholic stuff?

I do casually, but I practice self control and never drink as an escape from stress.

Surgeon Lambda's Warning - Those of you who are underage, I do not condone drinking before becoming of age, the age limit exists for a reason.

Re: Adult beverages?

Well like I said in the music topic I never drink alcohol and never plan to start either. I have no reason to! My social life is great all ready without the need to poison myself. wink

Re: Adult beverages?

Hey now, no need to sound so high and mighty there, ontels! Not everyone who drinks does so to improve a crappy social life. wink

I'm similar to KingLambda with this topic. It's just a fun thing to do occasionally. I cannot make myself like beer no matter what kind I try, though. I'm so left out! tongue

Those "cool kids" that Clock-la mentioned are really annoying. Like, congratulations, you drank a lot of alcohol? Do you want a trophy or something? I think once those kids start to grow up alcohol becomes less of a taboo and they realize that taking a ton of shots and blacking out isn't actually impressive.

Re: Adult beverages?

Indeed, when I drink I have no intention of doing it to enhance social situations, or dare I say poison myself, but rather because, like Stormy said, it can be fun as long as you use self control and know when enough is enough, and as clock la said, because a lot of kinds of it taste good in a way non alcoholic beverages do not. Specifically ales (dark beers), red wine, daquiris, long islands, and champagne are delicious

Only took a sip of one once. Just a sip. I will never drink ever though.

Re: Adult beverages?

In New Zealand there is a flaw in alcohol laws. There is an age limit to buy alcohol, but not a law on drinking it. And I was with my dad so it was all good. But I would ever use alcohol as an escape from any kinds of personal or social troubles.

Re: Adult beverages?

Some states in the US are kind of like that. In Wisconsin I have heard that it's perfectly legal for someone underaged to drink at a bar or a restaurant if their parents order it for them. Although I'm not sure how they tell for sure if the adults are the parents....

My dad just eats when he is drunk. And is loud.

Re: Adult beverages?

Everybody reacts to alcohol differently. Had I been a mean drunk, I would have stopped drinking as soon as I found that out. The affect alcohol has on me is it makes me really talkative and more likely to laugh and enjoy the small things in life.

That said, even being comfortable with my drunk self, I only get drunk on very rare occasions, and even then know when to stop and not to do anything stupid like drive.

Edit: Stormy can explain drunk me better than I can

Re: Adult beverages?

I only drink wine (can't stand beer). I have never been drunk, but i have been buzzed and i can safely say that i was very giggly so i think i would be a fun drunk if i ever did get drunk. i only drink every now and then and its usually socially and i never have more than 2 glasses.

and pretty much every thing stormy said earlier.

also alcohol is an antiseptic so your technically not poisoning your self unless you drink or ingest into your system exuberant amounts of it.

Re: Adult beverages?

Still though I don't see the point in having it unless your socially awkward, it's like the opposite of being yourself, is unhealthy and addicting. I would rather smoke than become a regular drinker. (I don't smoke either)

Why do you seem to think that drinking turns everyone into the devil?

Re: Adult beverages?

I think his aversion to it is quite understandable if, as he implied in a previous post, his mom reacts negatively to alcohol. Honestly, even though I do drink, I would feel pretty bad trying to convince anyone who doesn't drink that they should give up their admittedly more responsible choice, especially if they are underaged. You know, peer pressure and all that. The last thing I want to do is be that person.

But personally, I like it every once in a while. Alcohol is a depressant, so it can be relaxing. It's sort of a different kind of fun than sobriety rather than not being able to have fun normally, if that makes any sense. However, I will say that it's pretty overrated, mainly by obnoxious people like the ones Clock-la mentioned that brag all the time about how drunk they were. It's really not even that exciting. For me and most people I know, it just gets harder to think, makes you sort of tired and relaxed, and, if you have too much, you'll probably do and say some stupid things.
