Re: Skyrim
No. I expect them to actually give me information instead of them *bleep*ing about their problems. If the protagonist doesn't give a crap. Why the hell should I give a crap too?
You are the protagonist. The NPCs also have their roles, but unlike Dark Souls, they aren't really limited to cookie cutter attitudes that the lazy writers made. For example, when you talk to Vamos, all he practically says is, "I'm a blacksmith, leave now."
Pretty much only the barkeep gives you gossip on quests and such.
Local issues affecting their town? You don't consider those to be petty, but when the jarls ask you to help them or a guild gives you a quest, they are as useless as can be?
I would welcome your opinion that Dark Souls is better than Skyrim, but when all you do is post this with no explanation:
Dark Souls>Skyrim
And then proceed to list off a bunch of poor points (JRPG? Seriously? That's an issue?), then I find it pretty hard to sympathize. I've been at the point where I disliked a popular game (for example, Minecraft or CoD), but it wasn't at the point where I hated it just for the sake of the game itself, but I also knew why other people like it.
I see why you like Dark Souls over Skyrim, but not for the reasons that you made. You dislike it because Skyrim is not as linear as Dark Souls. You prefer games that give you what you need and not require you to pause and think through. You like games that are more action-skilled based rather than role-playing or mind-skill based. You want a game that you can play through and consider yourself 'finished', rather than unknowingly going through a blind world.

Hate to jump in on something that's not really even the topic, but have you played The World Ends With You? The NPCs' thoughts are 99% of the time just boring things that any everyday person could be thinking, like "Hmm, I really want to buy this new CD" and "What should I eat for lunch today?" There aren't even any lines to read between.

Aww crap, I edited my post because of a typo and realized that what I said would be taken too literally.
I've never heard of The World Ends With You, but that would make sense if they were just normal people.

Pretty much. I like exploration as much as the next guy. But Bethsodas games overdo it. I prefer more linear games which is why I'm not a huge fan of WRPGs(Cept Planescope Torment. That game did everything right)
I think maybe I'm just overall disappointed with Skyrim compared to Oblivion. Oblivion was much less annoying and was interesting. The guilds were fun(Read: Dark Brotherhood), The main plot wasn't so cringe worthy, And it never froze. It was glitch ridden yes. But not as much as Skyrim. The one thing I can safely say they improved was the graphics and the exploration. That was it.
That said. What's been happening with modern gaming? Pretty much the only modern RPG I've enjoyed were FFXIII,Radiant Historia and Nier. I tryed to branch out with other games but either can't get into it(Fallout New Vegas) or had a really terrible sidequest systems that annoyed me to no end(Dragon Age). Thank god this year we'll be getting FFXIII-2, Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade this year. Last Guardian is we're lucky.
And speaking of Xenoblade
That was one of the NORMAL battle themes. Repeat the NORMAL battle themes.
This games gunna be awesome.

Re: Skyrim
I admit there has been a huge change in video games lately, especially in the form of RPGs. The issue seems to be between the more conservative games (JRPGs), and progressive games (modern RPGs). The issue is that games use to need to have small memory footprints to run well. The first FF game is an example of this. Back when it was made, it was just not practical to fit a larger game onto such a small cartridge. Ignoring graphical limitations, it has just been impossible to make such games until recently. The original pencil-paper RPG was (and to a degree, still is), impossible to implement. The issue is that gamers, developers, and even publishers have all wrongly put in their minds the idea of what an 'RPG' actually is. Dark Souls is not an RPG, despite the label. Skyrim and similar games are going towards the direction of a true RPG, but should still not be labelled as one.
The issue that you are facing is that with new technology comes new genres of games. 30 years ago it would have been almost (and I say 'almost' objectively) impossible to create an FPS game. 20 years ago, an MMO, 10 years ago, a Sandbox game.
Eventually, games like Dark Souls and probably Skyrim won't be categorized as RPGs anymore. True RPGs will only be made when they are able to allow a player to create an entirely generic and original world with their own limitations.

@ furry.
Good music dos'nt make a good game.
remember that well.
Look at DotD had sound music indeed but the game it self was worse than anything else.
Even Ar tonelico 3 wich I did enjoy was'nt all that grand, but the music was ossum ![]()

Music is a very big part of a game for me. With the right music. You can set any mood perfectlly. Like one someone important dies
and a sad theme plays and you get a little chocked up. Without it's kinda pointless.
Of course you are right about music. A game needs good story,Music and Gameplay to be good. Though I can forgive a lot if one is better or has a higher focus. Like WKC. The Story isn't really that good but the Battle Mechanics and explration make up for it.

Re: Skyrim
I wish BF3 can be compatible for modders, but the game engine is too
complicated. In almost every aspect.
Ligting: Each light node in BF3 has enough information in it to be equal in
size for the lighting for an entire level in Bad Company 2. And there are
hundreds of thousands of light nodes in a single BF3 level.
Textures: With the new demolition system, there are multiple textures for a
single object. And the texture work is extremely accurate. It's hard to find
the dividing line between two faces on a 3D object. To add on to that, a
single texture file is large to allow more use of detail.
3D objects: Probably the easiest part to mod.
Sound: The sound system consists of a huge network/web system of
precisely edited sound levels, along with Doppler effects and the sound
priority system. So if a car horn is blaring and an explosion happens, the
sound level of the explosion will "drown out" the car horn.
Animations: There are so many animations for 3rd and 1st person
movements. And there are a lot of animation transitions. The animation
system is from a sports game that has an advanced animations system.
It makes perfect sense, to me, why the game with two disks. There are so
many files in the game that it all won't fit on a single disk.

Actually she's easy if you go in a low level. The game goes on this level scaling system where enemys level up with you(Like FF8). So she's at her weakest if you fight her immediately.

She still has it. You can actually get her armor which is broken at that point of the game.
