Why the site was down

So for people who are wondering, here's what I know about what happened to the forum for the past few days. Remember I have no administrative control over this site whatsoever so I was not involved in any of this server stuff.

PHP was down the first day I noticed it, which is why you may have seen the infamous "phpBB: critical error" message pop up. After that, you couldn't even connect to the server at all for another two or three days. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but I think SR and Aristeo (the owner of the epic-chat IRC network) were working on fixing it at least at some point. The server that hosts this site also hosts Spyroworld and Spyrochat.com and is also one of three servers for the epic-chat IRC network that #spyrochat is hosted on.

I know it's not a complete explanation, but that's really all I know for sure; hopefully it's somewhat helpful.

No posts for a week, yeah, I'd say it was down.

I'd say admin isn't paying the bills, but it keeps resurfacing, so there's something else at work here.

As far as I know (wasn't paying attention 100% to IRC) it was just Apache and/or mySQL derping.

I'm curious about that too.

Anyway, I'm sure that whatever is going on, there will be some kind of
positive outcome. If they didn't pay the bills, the website wouldn't be back up
so soon. Along the lines of what Stormy explained, I think they are working on
the servers. Fixing and/or updating servers is always a good thing.

the reson: Latias fan had a HUGE rant about how he hated MLP as he was "our hater" only to return to tell me ((out off all people)) he'd seen the show and he liked it, as a result I told everyone else and he runs away for the drama.

he'll be back soon I exspect.

Most long term members who announce they're leaving eventually come back. I would know since I've done it at least three times. :roll eyes:

Ratchet was one... Then there was me (I guess, I mean... I didn't actually purposely leave, just drifted off). Would you count Razz as one? I don't think he came back at any time. I know YOU left and we had no moderators XD (though that was because of your internet, right?).

This forum if pretty good at staying controlled [more or less] when mods are
absent temporarily. Anyway, as a random thought, I miss Raven ... same as
Razz and Ratchet. Well, every older member who has drifted off.

I haven't seen SR here much.

^ Yeah, you guys are pretty good compared to some communities. And I didn't know ratchet left. Thought he just lost interest or something.

As for SR, to add a slightly on-topic sidenote here, never posting + never updating the site + server having long periods of downtime with no explanation = admin probably doesn't care all that much.

I'd count Razz if I wasn't 99% sure she came back a few years later with a new account. Don't ask what the account is, though because 1, I could be wrong; and 2, I can't blame her for wanting to avoid potential hostility that would come from using her old identity.

I left a lot of different times for different reasons. Most of them were because my parents blocked my internet or blocked this site, but there were also a lot of times when I got into disagreements with SR and ragequit.

Heh. Most of said rage was directed to SR, so anyone who wasn't my friend at the time probably never heard about it. In my defense, I was only like 15 and 16 the couple times it happened. If you've heard of any of the "rebellions" that have happened on this site... yeah, both of them were me and like three other people.

As for Razz, I'll give as short of an explanation as I can.
Basically she was a popular fan artist and was a mod because SR liked her art. I and some other members disliked her because we felt she was arrogant and condescending towards members. There was a disagreement between her and someone else where she was being rather unreasonable, and I stood up for the other person in an unnecessarily harsh way. She intended to take a break from the site but left for good when some of the members who didn't like her made themselves known. She then assumed there had been a secret anti-Razz society behind her back the entire time, insulted SF and SR, and wouldn't stop writing about how horrible SF was on her deviantART page for like a month afterwards.

Tl;dr this entire post, e-drama. tongue

What I don't understand is why it is considered controversial. Looking back on it, it looked like the stupidest thing to happen on the forum. I'm surprised Razz still doesn't want to come back. The forum's a lot better XD.
