Re: Live Creatures Sold as Keychains

*sigh* People are just so selfish! They'd do anything to make a buck, including torture and starve poor animals! If I were there, I'd steal the dumb contraptions so they couldn't make a profit, get the critters out of there, and make sure they got a proper home! The article says the person selling them claims the water has "oxygen and nutrients" bull crap!

Re: Live Creatures Sold as Keychains

kenocartel has a great point.  The fish abuse is very insignificant compared to how people are treated.  That's not to say the fish keychains are fine.

Re: Live Creatures Sold as Keychains

i'm glad it's only in China, i was afraid this would become a popular thing, but it's only because of their lack of animal rights laws, thus limiting the number of places something so stupid could be done.

now all that needs to be done is to eradicate this from China, too.

Strange, you have never really asserted yourself as a troll before now, any reason for this sudden choice of idiocy?

This.

I feel sorry for the animals, but it doesn't enrage me like it once would have.

Re: Live Creatures Sold as Keychains

Is it bad when I first saw the article, I didn't think, "Omg that's so sad!" But actually thought, "What a waste if they don't live for more than a few days"?

I think it would be a cool idea if the bags actually allowed for feeding, oxygen, and changing the water. That way you could at least put a surface breather like a beta fish in it. Wouldn't harm it at all.

Maybe, but the problem with that is them being slung and banged all around because they would be keychains.

Because the density of water is so close to the density of the fish themselves, I would say the fish, along with the water, would barely move at all even if smashed up against a brick wall (unless there is too much air space in the bag). Besides, while beta fish do prefer still water, they do often live in rivers. And they really prefer small living spaces over large open areas.

Re: Live Creatures Sold as Keychains

Hmm... then maybe betas could work. But there is no way those other animals are going to survive. Unless the people who purchase them get them out of there.

I feel bad but strangely it does not bug me as much. And I love animals.

Also, there are several lines of sushi restaurants that serve live fish.  Viewer Discretion Advised:  (PG)

Say what you want, I think it's actually kind of cool and artistic.  This isn't some redneck community that is screwing up America as always.  This is Japan, a much more sophisticated life than the blame-shifting of US citizens.

And I would contest that anyone who says they don't like sushi hasn't had the chance to try good sushi.
