Re: The Crisis in Japan!
Nothing wrong with this topic being here. It was a terrible thing and if I get a chance for deployment in the area I will most likely take it, but indeed keep the people of Japan in your prayers.

I really wish the game companys there are safe otherwise i'll give up gaming in general since all the good games(Other than Bethsoda and Bioware)come from there. And anime that too.
I wouldn't waste my time worrying over that stuff! Gotta remember the people who lost their homes and families! ![]()

The Kanto Region is fine, but I care more about the people in the less urban areas at this time, not the computer companies.

Re: The Crisis in Japan!
Minor damage?
Well, even if only one person died, it would still be worth noting.
I was fortunate that the tsunami hit a more rural area of the island. And yes, the media will spin their own story on the tragedy. But seeing any of those video clips of the flood water completely taking over the land is pretty amazing.
Current death toll is at 977.

Wake me up... when September ends is here...

Re: The Crisis in Japan!
Death toll is being estimated at over 10,000 and the problem isn't so much the damage caused by the earthquakes and such but the possibility of nuclear meltdowns in their reactors.

Re: The Crisis in Japan!
It's been weird hearing about the crisis. It started off not looking too nasty, just a flood and a few dozen casualties. Then it rose to hundreds, and then nuclear reactors were hit, and so on, until it's been called the worst time since 1945. It's really snuck up on me.

Re: The Crisis in Japan!
last i heard, a couple buildings had fallen down, maybe 300 died, and some waves were expected to hit California and Hawaii.
wow, that's terrible.
RIP to the victims, and hopefully some kind of recovery will begin soon.
if it hasn't already; i don't keep up on current events much anymore.
but i have to wonder: with all our current technology, i'm sure we can tell when the tectonic plates are about to collide, especially to this magnitude. could no more have been done to prepare?

The plates don't just 'collide'. They push up against each other little by little until the pressure in the ground is just too great. We can't predict pressure changes over the entire planet's surface at 30,000 feet deep. Especially underwater.
However, the tsunami is different. There is no excuse for why so many people were still near the shore when it happened.

I don't think we have the technology to predict exactly when and were the Earths crust is going to move.

If any of you guys have cell phones and some extra money, you can donate by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Ten dollars will be added to your next phone bill and will go towards relief.

Been praying for days for Japan. The poor people. I wish I could go over and help... but I don't have enough money. I guess I'll just donate to the Red Cross or something.
And btw, the Pokemon creator is alive. It was a rumor that he passed away.

I'm sure the third or fourth richest country in the world can handle it, once they've got their feet back on the ground.

Yeah it is an odd rumor, so I'm hoping he'll be okay, as for all the other people in Japan.
I've always wanted to go to Japan. I've always been interested in their culture and I would be in heaven if I did go there. But now, after all that is happened, I will probably donate money to them to help rebuild their country. Such a shame I don't have the money to fly over there and help them.
