Busa stepped towards the dragoness curiously. "Ophelia... Is that really you?" He put his blade back into his pouch so he wouldn't frighten her. She was still facing away from him. "Turn around. So I can see you." He said, a small smile of joy forming on his face.

"Why not? Are you hurt?" Busa stepped towards her and started to walk around her. "Ophelia... I can't believe it!" He said in delight. As he walked around her, he looked at her body. Strange... There are no wounds...

Suddenly, Ophelia was yanked up by a gigantic tentacle with numoerous eyes and mouths on it. A father's love...touching... a voice said.

Busa's smile immediately faded. He drew his blade and charged at the tentacles. "LEAVE HER!" He bellowed, slashing the blade from side-to-side, trying to cut the tentacles and set her free.

I knew it... I knew they would come and ruin it... But then again... Is this Ophelia at all? Despite this thought, he roared aggressively and tried desperately to free his daughter.

If only you had heard me out...I would have released her. the voice said as as he lowered her right in front of Busa before tearing her in half so her blood and organs would spray onto him. They were real.

Busa screamed and stopped immediately, staring at the scene in horror for a moment, letting his daughter's blood cover him. No... Please, no! The next thing he knew, his blade was on the floor and he was staring at the sky, a screech of sorrow coming from his lips. He hadn't wailed so much since... since...

He collapsed on the floor, still screaming.

Roark came from behind the mound.

"Good work. I'm impressed you hit the six so quickly, I-" He stopped then as he noticed that two of them had bald bellies. He curled his lips back and growled at Jeren, he was obviously angry. "You killed does? Even though I specifially told you not to? There were nearly thirty rabbits! It's not exactly hard to chase rabbits down or even shoot them with you element, you utter idiot!"

He crouched a little and growled again. He wasn't going to attack Jeren, they were only rabbits after all, Roark was just upset that he had killed does which meant that he would have to now dig out some rabbit kits and put them out of their misery now that they were orphans. But then again, the others wouldn't be able to tell that.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!"
Silver charged at the tentacle, putting every bit of energy he had into exterminating the thing that killed his dearest and only friend. He viciously attacked with anything he could, bow and arrow, claws, etc. He wanted it to die as soon as possible. "WHAT DID YOU DO? WHY? WHY?!!!" he said, then gave a quick roar.

After the attack he stared at busa and laid down next to him. "This isn't the end, Busa. Just assume this is all an illusion, a bad dream..." he sniffed, and remained silent, his eyes still looking around for enemies.

"So I'm wrong because I killed something worth more dead than alive? I'm so bad," Jeren said sarcastically. HE was used to reacting and striking quickly, and scanning each of his targets didn't suit him. He wasn't the most accurate shot with lightning, either - not accurate enough to hit a small, dashing target anyways.
"Why does it matter?" Marka asked. "They're just rabbits. Or do the bald-bellied rabbits taste bad? We'll eat the meat if you don't want it."

Roark ignored Jeren and stomped over to the warren again. He then put the side of his head flat against the ground for a few minutes, once he was sure he then started digging. Once he had opened up the hole he sniffed inside and nodded to himself before he then turned and listened to the ground again. Twice he dug up holes that he covered up after a quick sniff, discarding them for some reason.
When he was finished he went back to each hole, fished something out of each of them and then walked up to Marka before dumping something on the floor in front of her; he knew that because she was female it may hit home more than with the males.

"No, you may as well eat them; they are the ones who have been condemmed now that their mothers are dead. When you think about the fact that mortality is low in baby rabbits then that is at least a dozen future adults dead too. We may as well have wiped out the whole warren, never mind the various animals and other dragons that would have fed in the future. What your brother just did is no different than leaving your sister to fend for herself, they stand no chance."

On the floor at Marka's feet were 14 squeaking rabbit kits. Five of them had fur so were about a week older than the others, the rest were naked. However all were blind and deaf.

"You should eat them as they are, don't bother cooking them; it's more humane to just eat them alive, they won't know what hit them."

He then picked up the 6 adult rabbits to skin and gut them.

Busa didn't move from his spot on the floor, and barely reacted outwardly to Silver's nice, but hasty words of encouragement. Inwardly, his mind was racing. It seems so coincidental that Ophelia... after all these years of searching, suddenly pops up out of nowhere, right near to where Silver and I were walking. And... how those tentacles also came out of nowhere. Something's not right...

Despite this thought, the metallic stench of the blood finally got to Busa. He quickly threw his head away from Silver and threw up violently. Coughing and retching, he happened to glance at the dismembered Ophelia's top half. After his stomach emptied he crawled over to it. Her eyes were wide and staring, as if in shock, and her mouth was slightly open. From the lower half of her torso, her spine could be seen. She was covered in blood.

Looking into her lifeless eyes, a sudden revelation came to Busa. He didn't know how he figured it out. It was just there, in his head at that moment. His remorse and sorrow for her was nowhere near as strong as it should be. And that, Busa figured, was not right at all. He knew what had happened. He knew who this dragoness was. A fatherly instinct he guessed.

Wiping his mouth, he slowly got to his feet. "You're not my daughter." He growled at the dead dragoness.

"But they're... just rabbits.." said Marka, with some uncertainty in her voice. The sight of the kits was a bit saddening - she certainly didn't like the thought of them starving to death, just as she didn't like the thought of her friends starving. However, she had grown used to death, and could not find anything faulty with Jeren's actions, except to hope that he was a bit cautious next time.

"Yes! They're just rabbits!" said Serm. "I find it funny that someone that was perfectly fine with killing a few rabbits is now getting all emotional over the death of a few more. They are prey, and should be treated as such. And why eat the tiny rabbits? They look disgusting."

No one was willing to eat the kits.

"They are no different to an adult rabbit, just smaller, though they carry more nutrients because of their mother's milk. Jeren killed their mothers, so those are his spoils. He gets to eat them." He said as he started to bury the entrails. "I am worrying over the deaths of more rabbits then should be necessary because I was around when myxomatosis wiped out virtually all rabbits. Around here deer are rare, so there was a widespread famine. When you live through something like that you realise that you should always look after your resources because if you abuse them then soon they are not there anymore. There is only a limited amount of prey animals in the world, if you over-hunt them before they have a chance to breed and replace their numbers then everyone suffers. If other people suffer then no homes, armor and weapons are made; there is no medical care and there is no protection because noone can sustain armies or guards. You may think that one little action can't affect you, but eventually it will. The first thing children learn is to respect their environment."

He then set about skinning the rabbits.

"Interesting story. Who's Misomatosis?" Serm asked. "Why does he or she hate rabbits? Why didn't you just kill him or her?" We're not staying here for long... he thought. Not our problem.

"Me? Eat those things? I wouldn't eat them for a lifetime supply of food!" Jeren responded. "They look disgusting, and our meal will fill us up." It was one thing to rip a leg off of an adult rabbit and eat it. It was another thing to just eat one of those... things. Marka was looking at him and back at the kits, wondering what it would feel like for him to eat them.

Roark was sick of answering their silly questions that they should know.

"Well, if none of you are going to be compassionate..." Roark then stomped over and after raising one of his massive feet, stamped down on the squeaking kits with a resounding crunch. "The resources of our lands are all interconnected. Water circulates which makes all of the weather connected. The look you gave me then obviously meant that you don't care. If you don't care about whether or not my family and others I know have enough resources to live then I don't care whether or not you see Lord Dayn to get your... antidote."

Roark then stepped off of the pieces of crushed rabbit, giving a flick of his foot to dislodge some pieces of baby rabbit before he started collecting some wood for a fire.

"Positive." Busa replied, picking up his blade. "Being a father, I know my daughter. And that..." He pointed to the dismembered corpse of the dragoness, "...Was not her. Don't think that you can trick me any longer. So, that said, nice to meet you." He growled, lunging forward and slashing his blade at the tentacles.

Silver nodded and got up. It sure was grose and made him stop thinking logically. It's not her... it's not her. But... it seemed... it felt... like I really lost her. It's showing how much I care for her...

Silver stood up, now focussed, and retried to violently hit one of the tentacles.

Marka had a sickened look on her face. The others didn't show any noticeable reaction.
"Wait? When did I say I didn't care?" Serm asked. "I think it's very important to... forget it. We'll be right back." He nodded, signaling for the others to follow him. They soon disappeared into the forest.

They strolled for a few minutes, stopping occasionally to listen for any sounds that may indicate that they were being followed. After a while, they stopped and began.

"So... what do do now?" Jeren asked.
"You were the one that killed the does," Serm said. "You figure something out."
"Hey, I did what I was ordered to do. If I bothered to fully examine every single rabbit, I wouldn't have caught any. They're just rabbits, anyways... besides, weren't you the one insulting him for caring about them?
"Ah.. well, you never can tell with their idiotic logic. Anyways, I wonder how Gravius is doing."
"Not too well, I think. I don't think he expected the mission to take this long."
"He thought we'd just find a store or something and buy what we need", said Marka. "What do you think?"
"Your sarcasm is appreciated."
"You could just apolo-"
"I doubt just apologizing would work," said Serm. "We didn't manage to survive so long by just apologizing and letting these people accept us. We fought. Maybe stabbing him with the dagger that still has poison would give him a good reason to help us get the antidote."

"I dunno, I don't want to run out of poison," said Jeren. "Much of the poison was already lost when the dagger hit Gravius. Maybe if we could get our hands on some more... that would be even better!"
"On the topic of Gravius," said Marka, "what are we to do if we can't find him?"
The others were silent for a moment. "We look for him," said Jeren.
"Where?"
"Uh... maybe we can track him somehow?"
"The wind, especially the sandstorms, would remove any tracks."
"Then we'll come back here and look for news of where he has gone," said Serm. "This place isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Food everywhere, as is water. It's those you have to live with that are an issue. Maybe we could arrange for Gravius to stay here, somehow... anyways, let's go back."
"What about Roark?" Marka asked.
"We'll apologize to him, see if that gets us anywhere, and follow up on what Serm suggested if it doesn't," answered Jeren.

With that settled, the group began heading back.

"Vampires are immortal... But how..." Silver told Busa, a bit confused. "They're trapping us, they're doing anything to let us lose hope. And they can't die as long as we haven't found an idea how. What can we do?" He hadn't heard of anything to defeat some new sort of vampire-thing. They needed to find it out themselves, which was difficult. "Allright, tentacle. You can't fool us anymore. What are you going to do now?"

Roark had already started a fire and was cooking three of the rabbits. He had skewered them on a thin stick which he had stirpped of its bark and he was slowly rotating them over the flames. He still had a face which indicated he still wasn't happy.

"Well..." began Jeren. He paused for a moment. "I would just like to apologize for... uh, killing the does. I just..."
"Keep going."
"I just wasn't thinking. Of course keeping them alive is necessary, for wha - for everyone's sake. I should've realized that. And if there's any way I can make it up, please tell me..." The apology came out only somewhat grudgingly.
Bali was moving towards the food, but Serm held her back. "Wait..."
