Serious Deep Thinking...If you read, please respond

All right, I was reviewing one of my fan fictions.  There is a chapter in one in which an ultimatum is issued.

Let's pretend for a minute.

You are an adult in command of a large army.  You have a second-in-command, much less experienced than you and still learning, but you trust them with the details of your plans and they obey you without question.  The two of you are good friends.
You are fighting in a war and for some reason the enemy has the upper hand - they are holding three-quarters of your soldiers hostage.  You call a peace talk.
The leader of the other side says that your hundred thousand soldiers may walk free and not be completely massacred and wiped out - provided you choose one of two options.

Option 1: You die.

Before automatically choosing Option 2, wait until you hear what it is.

Option 2: Your second-in-command dies - and you're the one who has to kill them.

What will you do?  Will you take Option 1 and die yourself, leaving the war and the lives of your soldiers in the hands of your naive second-in-command?  Or will you take Option 2 and kill your friend yourself - in front of your army?

Which option do you pick?

Please respond to this.  I would really like to know what people would do in this type of situation.

Sorry if this seems dark.  I was pondering it last night as I couldn't sleep.  But please respond seriously - no ridiculous answers like "Don't pretend" or anything like that.

Option 2 every time. But the idea of allowing thousands of enemy soldiers to be traded for a single officer seems rather silly. I hope it was a metaphor...

Re: Serious Deep Thinking...If you read, please respond

It was kind of a metaphor...I probably need to edit my fan fiction now...

Yeah, it is kind of silly...but the enemy leader in my fic is mentally unstable...and she will do anything to see her enemies die...particularly the leader and second-in-command...

Re: Serious Deep Thinking...If you read, please respond

This isnt taking the *bleep* but heres my own option:
Option 3: Choose option 2 but just as your about to kill ur second in command you turn and shoot the leader of the oposite army big_smile without their leader it should send them into dissary. This, like i said wasnt taking the *bleep* just saying my idea.

She did say, "no ridiculous answers like "Don't pretend" or anything like that."

Choose either one or two.

Real life: 3/4 of your Army is captured and not killed you might as well surrender yourself.. there would never be a "peace talk" it would be an all out surrender.

oh and MEATLOAF MADE OF SPAM!!!!

You're kidding right? Do you even live here? There are chocolate saucepans more efficient than London.
