Well, it seemed that Cynder was allies with Gaul during the 12-year rule of her reign in ANB, until she was returned to normal. She's considered a traitor to the Apes in TEN.

If that means anything then it shows she either done those things unwillingly or compeled by lies. It's difficult to tell why she attacked Gaul afterwards. Maybe she was still working for Malefor and was told about Gaul's plans... but that's only a theory. I'm still trying to put the puzzle together.
