I was curious about experimenting with that. What if your forced to start out as a different character and then get to play Spyro after unlocking his campaign midway though the game? (You play through his story and visit the same levels but different areas than the other character) I know it's a bit queer to do something like that but still... its worth a shot.

Most likely the next game will have Spyro and Cynder reunited with their friends such as Sparx and going against some new evil force. I am writing a fic right now that takes place after Dawn of the Dragon and the new enemy is actually Malefor's daughter.

Carrying on with what? The LoS series?...I don't know if they will continue on with it under that title...but they did want to use the same characters and the same story.

If they don't continue with TLoS, they should at least continue with the characters. I've grown attatched to how Spyro and Sparx look, and that Sparx actually talks cleary. x3 Besides; flying? Way cool! Wouldn't wanna lose that. (and playing Cynder)
And I've become attatched to the characters. :3 They just seem.....(no way else to put it. I'm not being mean if it sounds like it)normal.....

Well, if they don't use the TLOS title, that means they'll have to come up with a new one...
I don't like the sound of that. (anticipates next game will contain some dragon pun like "Wings of...", or something)
Sometimes it sounds good, other times...not at all.

Hm...maybe something like "The Legend of Spyro: Rise of Darkness" Sounds really epic, but this is what I have in mind: A new evil rises and when all hope seems lost Spyro and Cynder manage to pull through and win. Has same controls of DotD; Two player and free-fly.
I should make a fan fiction about that....nobody steal my idea! xD Jk.

The only thing I found was a response to a question asked before DotD came out, which I've seen already.

I don't think that as very reliable now, they might have changed their minds after seeing DotD's reception.

I could have all the evidence in the world and you prob still wouldn't believe it Ratchet lol...and if you don't see what I see as evidence I really don't care lol...for as far as I know...they wanted to continue with the series after this was over...wether they do it or not based on the games reception is beyond me...maybe they will...maybe they wont...but I'm pretty sure that's what they intended...

Unless of course they are going to try something else...but I doubt that they will end things right there. Thanks for giving everyone your usualy oppinion lol...yes we will surly see in 4 months or so...my guess is until after the movie comes out...

Well were else is there for Spyro to go then Super Smash Bros. The Subspace might be defeated but you never know a new enemy might emerge and it may take the combined forces of all the video game heroes to stop it. Mario and Link will need all the help they can get in it. And Spyro and Crash can finally have their match.

This quote is actually from Mike Graham..the executive producer. Note that he says Could...so it's perfectly possible that they could go a different direction from there...but this is their primary objective I assume:

Mike:There COULD absolutely be more after DotD. Our entire reasoning for re-imaging Spyro a few years ago was to create a fantasy world that had a sense of history to it - something more believable but in fantasy terms of course. We have a lot of ideas for what we would like to see next, but rarely get to plan that far in advance.

Personally, I like the direction we are on and would just like to build upon it by making even bigger worlds with more freedom to explore and customize your characters.

Chris and I have exposure with the movie producers and writers. They have been very receptive to our feedback and are doing a fantastic job with the script. We are very excited to finally bring Spyro to theaters - one of our goals a few years ago.

My favorite Spyro games:

PS1 - Spyro the Dragon. It felt so unique at the time and it was a dream come true to finally be able to play as a dragon.

PS2 - Tie Between ANB and TEN. I like the scene at the Dragon Temple in ANB when Ignitus tells Spyro who he is and what the world expects of him. But I also like the Chronicler scene in TEN and the ending (made even better by "This Broken Soul" .

And that is certainly an interesting idea lol....would be pretty sweet to see Spyro involved with a SSB game...

Red Dragon, that's from before DotD was released, so I'm not sure if it's still relevant.

Also, something I thought of...

A lot of fans of the originals hope they'll change styles after DotD, going back to platforming and whatever else is in the originals I don't know about. However, how do you know they won't do a horrible job of it? They at least seem to be figuring out how to do the TLOS style better, so if they change styles again, it might be a few games before they get the hang of it.

Unless of course Insomniac decides to come back to do the next game, which is about as likely as someone winning the lottery twice in 1 day without buying a ticket.

I know very well that the post was before the game came out...if you read the post you will see that I highlighed COULD...hence they were saying that it would depend on how the game would be received and how the eventual movie would be received.

Yet regardless they did want to continue the series should they have the means to do so...so that is pretty solid evidence. I don't see Insomniac coming back to reclaim the series...and I do think that if they continue to work on it a little longer then things will get better...if they truly wish to learn a lesson from the games they create...at least that's what I think.

You may think that that is enough evidence, but I'm still skeptical. While I firmly believe they can make this new Spyro into something amazing, the mixed reception DotD has received will have an impact on their decision, which is why I don't consider that earlier quote as important as you do. Now, maybe it will convince them to try harder until they make a great game, but maybe they'll just give up on it, though I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

I also noted that they could go either way now that the game was out. Ratchet asked for evidence that they primarily wanted to go on with the LoS series...and they do...but yes now that the game is out that is very open to oppinion...and we do not know what they will do now that the full blunt of reviews has come in...my guess is that they will wait for the movie to come out..

I stated firmly in my first post about the quote that they could go either way with it...but their primary goal originally was to continue with this series...so basically the evidence is pretty solid in proving that...but things are very open to change now that the game has standings.

Well, it should be interesting to see how things play out if nothing else. I wonder if ELB is going to stay on for the possible next game, or if they're going to do another developer switch.

Hmm, I hope they at least analyze their marketing strategy after this. As you've pointed out, they botched that pretty thoroughly this time. I don't think I saw a single comercial or ad for DotD.

I have not seen a single comercial....I have not seen a single ad...I still can't even find the game for PS3 in just about any store...I don't even see it for Wii....even PS2 isn't finable in Best Buy...I don't know if it's just the New England area or what...but whoever did this marketing sucked pond water....seriously....

It's seems like a shot in the dark which is pretty risky. From what I read so far I think they are uncertain about their goals. Those things are likely to change at anytime. So... we'll see where this speeding bullet lands on the target.

The only ad I remember seeing was for AND. I noticed Spyro staring at me with a smug face through my ACT II popcorn box. big_smile I was wigging out when I saw Spyro revamped look for the first time and I still think he was weird looking.

Yeah I still didn't see a thing lol...the marketing was junk...and as for the response on DotD....I'm not sure what they will do...because both ANB and TEN received pretty low to average reviews as well...and they kept going...but perhaps that was only so that they could finish the trilogy...we really wont know for quite some time just what they will do.
