I really want to know what happens with Eargon and Arya!!! Was anyone else completly saddened when Arya says they cannot be together!!!!???

I found it funny rather than sad. Eragon needs to learn the harshness of life, he can't have everything/everyone tongue

Re: Is anyone getting 'Brisingr', the third book in the Inheritance cycle? (sequel to Eragon & Eldest)

I find it amusing that he keeps going after her even though she's said no loads of times and has crushed him at least three times! He seems to think that because he's a Dragon Rider and will live forever (unless killed in battle) it makes it OK. But he can't make up the many years that Arya has already lived.

Hidden text

Even Saphira thinks he's pursuing a lost cause and during the book Saphira learns lessons about how harsh love and life can be!

But what kind of story would it be if he didn't 'get the girl' eventually?

Hidden text

I think that when the last egg hatches it will be for Arya so she will be its rider. Saphira will fall in love with the new dragon (it was said in Eldest that it was male), which will change Arya's feeling for Eragon. This is because, as Saphira said, the Dragon and its Riders' feelings are connected. Eragon can't love the dragon that Saphira may fall in love with so he would probably fall in love with its Rider which may turn out to be Arya. This is just a hypothesis, though and I'm not the only one who agrees with it, I've seen it on Shur'tugal before (an Inheritance website).

to answer the question, it would be a better story than if they pair eragon and arya together just because [lead male + lead female = happy fans]

one of the things i liked about harry potter is that they paired the lead male with a girl who played very little part in the books

Yeah, Arya is like, nearly a hundred or so years old, and Eragon is only about 16.

I used to think that Saphira and Thorn might get together later in the series, if they forgive each other. Then I realised about that thing that you've just mentioned, Phoenix, meaning if Saphira/Thorn became mates, then Eragon and Murtagh could get together too. But I have a feeling that Paolini isn't going to make his characters gay, though I could be surprised, who knows.

Re: Is anyone getting 'Brisingr', the third book in the Inheritance cycle? (sequel to Eragon & Eldest)

Yeah, you're right there. He could just surprise us all. One of the reasons that noone thinks it will be a new character that Eragon finally gets together with is because they won't have had much character development so it would be a rubbish story. But now that its four books he can maybe extend some parts a bit and who knows? It may be a character that's been introduced but noone has thought of!!

Re: Is anyone getting 'Brisingr', the third book in the Inheritance cycle? (sequel to Eragon & Eldest)

im having trouble getting back into it, possibly cuz of the numerous comments from literary snobs who seem to think paolini ripped everything off of other people

now i can kinda see where theyre coming from, but a lot of the things hes apparently copied are pretty common fantasy or even literary cliches (an adopted boy finding out his father was evil)

and even if he did consciously rip these things off (which i doubt) it works, it may not be the best written book in the world, but it captures interest, its familiar and yet you cant help but wonder whats gonna happen next

look at tolkien, most people agree that he wasnt the greatest writer, at least not as far as novel writing goes, everything is too complex, kindof like a history book as opposed to a fiction novel, but its the world he created that he's famous for, and the story of its inhabitants, regardless of it being more difficult to get through than your average book

Re: Is anyone getting 'Brisingr', the third book in the Inheritance cycle? (sequel to Eragon & Eldest)

It took me about two days to read it. Its about 750 pages long (give or take). I'm not going to spoil it for anyone, but in this one Paolini puts in a lot of his own things. Its a lot less 'similar to other books' than the other two. I was also right in my guesses as to what the spoilers meant (I have not given the answers to the hints but spoilered just in case):

Hidden text

Eragon meets a God - I was right about this one
Eragon is faced with a moral quandry - I was right about this one too
A character becomes pregnant - Right
A lead character dies at the end - Unfortunately, right
The word Brisingr is of great importance to Eragon - This, I guessed wrong, lol, I wasn't expecting it! XD

Its a good book, now the problem is waiting for the next one! Anyone who wants to talk about the book, PM me, then I won't give away any spoilers.

I'm on page...200? Already found a few points to poke fun at, but eh, I think it is better than Eldest.

[sub]What? It's out right now?

Now I just have to wait for it to start being available at the library so I don't have to buy it. That shouldn't be more than... a couple months. D=[/sub]

Same here.... And two-and-a-half hours? No offence, but I think thats way to short a time to read a book, you must be doing the equivalent of skim reading, how do you comprehend every word? (Not having a go, just shocked that anyone can read it that quick without missing parts out).

I read so that I absorb every word, and even if I did that fast it would still take me a day if I read it non-stop.

He changed it becuase he thought over 1k pages would be too long...or he just wants to keep the suspense going. I will applaud him for that if that is the reason.

Speed reading came naturally to me. I really don't like it. I read too fast to actually enjoy the book. Now I can't break the habit.

Eragon got really boring, never finished it.
I heard the sequel sucked bad, so never wanted to read it. Is this one the best of them all?

Um, Eldest was better than Eragon, IMO. And also, I got Brisingr two days ago. smile
