Re: man charged with beheading a person on bus
@raven: Yes, there's a lot of talk about the incident here obviously. And yes, you're correct that there is no death penalty here.
Funny thing I saw recently on the headlines: "Man accused of beheading described as a nice guy" which made me spit out in laughter. However nice he was, it's still unknown what led him to do something so lunatic.
As for the debate about the validity of the death penalty, I'm staying out of that, since I've seen big debates on that before.

Re: man charged with beheading a person on bus
Death penalty? Things like that, I believe are unnecessary. On the other hand, I guess you never know if murderers will ever change there ways, so the government decides to rid the criminal. But the debate against weather its right or wrong to kill is pretty much evened out in my opinion, I mean, the government isn't always right, and the jails being so full, might as well kill the ones sentenced there forever, right? I don't think so, but what the government says, goes. >> Best not question it unless its truly your business.

Re: man charged with beheading a person on bus
I haven't gotten any sleep today yet, so I'm in no mental condition to continue with this debate. I'll type a response when I wake up.
i wanted to let you know before you do respond that youve actually managed to sway me somewhat, if the prison system gets stricter then there is no need for the death penalty, life in a prison cell is as bad if not worse than death (or it could be if they fix the system)
however i remain steadfast on castration for sexual offenders, at least paedophiles if not rapists as well

Re: man charged with beheading a person on bus
Sorry, I was out and about yesterday (read: busy playing Crazy Taxi) and never managed to get on here.
Anyways, I'm glad there's at least some mutual agreement here. But today I've spent all my energy debating on another forum with someone arguing that religion is evil and causes all the horrible things in the world, so my sanity and willingness to form sentences has just south of worn out, so let's just agree to disagree.
Also: 4chan is down so I can't even get any sufficient lulz for today.

Though I'm a pretty devout atheist, I had to argue in defense of religion as a whole. Though pleanty of bad things have started fueled by religion, it's our own humanity that causes us to do bad things, if religion didn't exist we'd pretty much just find another reason.

And like I said, we as humans have no right to decide who is allowed to live or who is allowed to die.
Did that murderer have any right to decide what victim should die?

No, but are you insisting we stoop to the same level?

It's done to stop the person from committing any future murders while discouraging some would-be murderers from doing the same. I don't call that stooping to the same level.

prison stops future murders just as well. And you don't seem to understand that it doesn't discourage anything: people who are willing to murder don't reason the same way you and I do. They don't have that voice telling something is bad.

What makes you think that these people won't just murder fellow prisoners? Murder in prisons isn't unheard of. Also, what will stop these people from murdering someone else when they get out?
Also, if a murderer knows that he is going to die if the police catch him and he knows that he isn't very capable of avoiding them, then said murderer will more likely be less willing to kill someone else.
