OOC:Wait, I just figured out that it was better to replace Frenzy Plant with SolarBeam.
Anyways, I just found out that my Milotic with Attract would be quite an effective weapon against your team, if any of us had wi-fi...

Re: Pokemon
I want to get into competitive battling, but I don't have Wi-fi or anything so I can't just yet. But that hasn't stopped me putting a team together! XD Its naff at the moment, I know what I want to use but I'm breeding egg moves into them at the moment.....
Try Shoddy Battle. http://www.shoddybattle.com
Anyways, I just found out that my Milotic with Attract would be quite an effective weapon against your team, if any of us had wi-fi...
Sorry, but Attract is considered hax, and is, unfortunately, despised from the metagame itself.
Swords Dancing, Double Teaming, Toxic Using, Baton Passing Ninjask and Staraptor with Giga Impact FTW!
Sorry but Double Team is also considered a hax... and in competitive battling, Evasion Clause and OHKO clause comes in play.
In any case, it would mean that to get properly into competitive battling, you have to devise things without relying on luck.
If anyone can manage to get into Nintendo WFC, give me your Friend Code so I can add you. My friend code is in my trainer card.

I only use Attract when I know what opponent I'm battling.
Anyways, what do you have against hax? It can have high payoffs if you're successful.

Re: Pokemon
It's a rule in competitive battling -- hax are not allowed. Most noticeable of this are Evasion and OHKO Moves.
Items like Quick Claw, Scope Lens, and all other items that rely on luck are also hax, which is also banned from competitive play.

Re: Pokemon
You mean hax is banned from wi-fi? I doubt it.
There must have been a lot of sucky players in order to ban hax.

[sub]They're not banned from WiFi; you can use whatever you want there, not like anyone could stop you. Zekira is a competitive player, meaning he goes to tournaments and stuff. That's probably what he means. [/sub]

Re: Pokemon
Seriously, banning a move from competitive play just because people aren't smart enough to counter it seems a bit extreme.
Maybe people should be smart enough to keep a Pokémon with Aerial Ace in their team.

[sub]Yeah, I never understood what the point of banning Double Team could possibly be. I mean, if your opponent wants to take the risk and use it a couple thousand times, let 'em, even if it will take twenty years to KO. =/ Seems to me it's just strategy, as the move is clearly allowed in game.
And don't forget Swift. x3[/sub]

This reminds me of Super Smash Bros. tournaments where "pro" players have matches with no items allowed. It's stupid. Items don't necessarily interfere with the match; it takes skill to use them to your advantage. Getting rid of items doesn't really make for a "purer" match. Same goes with the Pokemon battles you're talking about now.

Re: Pokemon
Yeah, the whole double team thing with Pokemon is ridiculous. People just need to find a strategy to get around it. Don't change the way the game works.

Re: Pokemon
They say using strategies that rely on luck are banned, but isn't that what the Pokemon games are almost all about?

[color=purple]Haxxing destroys the main part of competitive Pokémon battling: strategy.
@Phoenix_Flyer: No, of course not. We call luck as the 'cheat' factor in matches, actually... respectively, Criticals and Freezes are the most common kinds of uncontrollable hax.
According to Smogon, Serebii, *insert name of Battling community here*, these following checked are the rules to be followed in competitive play:
But remember though, I COUNTER hax. Simply put, any kind of buffing, given that gayhax doesn't occur, simply will have a hard time setting up against me. Sure-shot moves simply do not qualify for competitive standards except for Aura Sphere.
Double Team is banned, but Sand-Attack is not. Why? Because Sand-Attack has a competitive use: to force the opponent to switch.
Also, the evasion-clause issue has arisen from the fact, that even sure-shot moves, DO NOT hit when a combination of Double Team and Minimize (>_>) are maxed out, giving a Pokémon 120% evasion hacking into the game's system, and even messes around with the percentage.
Evasion Clause has been present for ever since Pokémon Emerald was released.

[sub]Well, that's just silly. Couldn't someone just use Roar on you anyway if you become too evasive? Or does Roar not always hit?[/sub]

[sub]Oh, now that makes more sense. In that case, why don't they just ban the combination of Double Team and Minimize? [/sub]

Re: Pokemon
Roar is not a sure-shot move -- it only has 100% accuracy. On the other hand, speaking in programming terms, sure-shot moves have 255% accuracy.
Having Evasion Clause, for me, is necessary... in pseudo-terms, we have dubbed both Evasion and OHKO moves to be 'gayhax'es. I remember the 'unintentional' Sand Veil hax of Garchomp instantly SWEEPING MY TEAM of 6 Pokémon, when my opponent only had Garchomp left and I still had 6 Pokémon left!
Haze is the universal counter to EvasionHax, but in a real match, Evasion is can be ignored, but when it takes effect, it will entirely ruin the essential part of Pokémon battling: strategy.
The new generation of Pokémon battling involves calculation of damage, making specific movesets with specific counters and specific outcomes, which hax will completely ruin. That is also a plausible reason why Item Clause has been removed from competitive battling, to make sure that itemhax won't be forced, and Leftovers is a universal hold-item for any Pokémon.
Currently, these are the only hax that the competitive battling can tolerate:
-SleepTalkHax (we don't consider this Hax at all)
-CritHax (OMGzKingdra)
-Flinchax (Togekiss -_-)
-Confusehax (This is at the bottom of the line, and might just be soon banned)
-Freezehax (all because this cannot be controlled at all)
I remember the last turn of one of my battles, which I was SURE I was going to win already...! Until some gay Quick Claw hax ruined up my day and made me lose -_-
(1-1 on each side)
The foe sent out GYARADOS!
Foe GYARADOS's Intimidate cut LIGHTY's attack! (Lighty = Jolteon)
Jolteon and Aerodactyl are the 3rd fastest Pokémon in the competitive tier. There's no way a Gyarados could ever survive it now!
*This is when I heard the sound of an item suddenly activating... and it sounded like...*
The foe's GYARADOS used Earthquake! It's Super Effective!
*...Quick Claw. Gay. Hax.*
LIGHTY fainted!
Tharos lost against [player]!

Re: Pokemon
Uh, I think that if Double Team wasn't meant to be used, it wouldn't have been created. An opponent that doesn't know how to counter it must not be very skilled.

Re: Pokemon
i personally think that all the competition surrounding pokemon has more or less ruined it, people reset their games if they can't find a legendary with a nature that is just right, people sit down and work out those EV values or whatever theyre called, instead of just levelling up normally, all of a sudden you have to be very careful about what pokemon you fight and stuff
and because of all this kind of stuff i can imagine a large number of pokemon are being completely ignored because they have no use in competitive battling
instead of being a case of "train your pokemon to be the best it can be and test it against someone else" its become a case of "get this pokemon, level it against these pokemon, teach it these moves, woop everyones butt who doesnt treat levelling like a mathematical equation"
its the same now in World of Warcraft to an extent, most places you go to will say "this is how you should set up your talents, anything else is just stupid, and this is the armour and weapons you should have, anything else is just stupid" so by the end of the game, i forsee a bunch of characters who (within the same class and race) look nearly identical
yes part of the reason all this annoys me is because i lack the enthusiasm to put so much effort into a game, but thats because i see it as being a game, not a car race (in my opinion all the cars in the race look about the same, the only difference is the driver)
