Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
Planet Earth will live until the Sun turns into a Red Giant and engulfs it. Life will live as well, bacteria lived on Earth in the Pre-Cambrian Era without oxygen and at scorching temperatures. Where more advanced life is concerned, it will live too. Some of the species we know today will die out but new ones will evolve and some like cockroaches will live through it. I didn't mean that I wasn't gonna do anything. Indeed I have planted some trees in my lifetime, I once planted an apple seed in my Nanna's garden and its a little tree now
. And there are also energy-saving light bulbs fitted at my house. I don't often take showers at home because I take one at the swimming pool after I have finished training. And I save animals too, we once attempted to hand-rear a baby bird we found, but that didn't work it was too young so it died. What I mean is I am not going to drastically change my life, it will achieve nothing. What I will do is rise awareness and do what I can. I can't make everyone change so its a waste of my time telling everyone what to do when I can be doing little things to help by myself.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
Thats what I mean, raise awareness and do what you can. Not everyone wants to change their lives for climate change, ratchet is an example. And I don't really want to go marching up and down the beach with a billboard saying 'stop climate change, save the animals' I wouldn't get any support that way. The sad fact is that I would probably get told to leave the beach, thats what our world is like for us. What I will do is change those little things in my life that will make a slight difference if everyone contributes. And you're right reddrago12, what humans are doing doesn't help, but we will suffer the consequences of that in about 100 years time, if we are correct about the scale of Climate Change. And once we are out of the way or have learnt our lesson, then life will continue, do we humans really think we can destroy all life? I doubt it.

While I do believe that global warming is a problem, I believe that overemphasizing it is just pointless scaremongering.

If the ice caps melt, polar bears have no place to live. They will drown. They will be extinct.

This is funny. xD
Polar bears may become extinct because the ecosystem in the future may not be supportive to the resources that the polar bears acquire such as food. They don't become extinct because they're on a single slab of ice that melts until they drop and drown. Polar bears are actually good swimmers.

Yes they may be good swimmers but how long can they swim?
and if polar bears do go extinct *hopefully they wont* think about how it would impact the other organisms living in the same enviorment. Hopefully we would never have to deal with this problem if people can just get their act together right about now. Cause soon it would be to late.

It doesn't matter, since I've said already that they're not going to fall into the ocean as a result of living on a small mass of ice. They'll just move onto the mainland.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
Right, lets get this straight. Polar Bears will not die because they have nowhere to live, nor because they can't swim. A Polar Bear can swim until it starves, one male was recorded swimming over 100km (on a documentary I watched). The reason they will die is because their primary food is seals, which they catch during the winter on the sea-ice. If the ice melts then they can't catch seals because, as good a swimmer as then can be, they can't out-swim a seal. Bmah is right though, the starving bears will then just move onto the mainland and conflict will arise between Polar bears, Humans and other predators like Wolves. And as for other organisms; if anything there will be more seals because of the Bears' absence! Creatures like Polar Bears and Giant Pandas were doomed as soon as they evolved. They are too specialised. At the moment the Earth is pretty stable in terms of climate, but in the past most of the time there were no Polar Ice Caps! Eventually, whether Man showed its ugly face or not, such creatures will have become extinct anyway when the climate shifted and their way of life became impossible. Of all the animals that have ever lived, less than 1% are alive today, the rest have become extinct.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
heres the thing people
yes, we are pushing more pollutants into the environment than it can handle, however its not because of factories or cars or livestock etc.
if we got rid of all those things today, in my opinion, we would still have a problem, naturally, a whole lot of CO2 is put into the atmosphere, the main problem now is, we're severely depleting natures method of dealing with it.
CO2 goes into the air thanks to things like breathing, every organism (besides plants) is spitting its share of CO2 into the atmosphere now, in fact ive seen some study which says that the amount of naturally produced CO2 far exceeds the amount of unatural CO2
Plants however, trees, grass, bushes, shrubs (algae im pretty sure too) they all take in CO2 and give out oxygen. but look at what we're doing, football fields worth of the amazon rain forest are disappearing every day (i dont understand how anything is actually left)
my belief is that the problem is deforestation and land clearing, not industrialisation
in saying that, since there are alternatives to burning fossil fuels i see no reason not to use them

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
thankyou to who agree's animals matter they were here before us and we took over the human race became the leaders
but the way that animals are treated is sick, a while back i hearded on the news that a man was hanging his dog from it's
own lead, a tiger was taken from it's cubs and shot and skinned then the cubs had the same treatment, it's wrong and sick
polar bears are going to be extinct if we can't help them.
