ah i see... so apparently they have to slaughter the population of an endangered species to research it
last i checked nobody is killing siberian tigers for scientific research, or elephants, rhinos, or anything else
and any research that needs to be done involving whales im sure could be done using a minimal number of them
there is no flaming excuse for it, once whales are gone theyre gone for good, so unless the japanese are working on cloning them, any excuse they give is bullcrap, and someone (the united nations) need to get off their *bleep* and do something about it

I hope you're not getting mad at me .. Lol.
I wasn't trying to back them up or support them. I was just answering with what you said earlier.
Really, killing shouldn't be necessary for research. If so, it should be used on something much smaller such as lab mice.
The Japs are tricky.

nono, dont worry, im not mad at you, its them im angry with
and by them i dont mean the japanese, because its been found that the japanese public dont exactly know why theyre being hunted, its the government and the whaling industry which are the problem

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
In response to ratchet's comment of how Antarctica increases and decreases in size from winter to summer. Don't use that lame excuse again, me and bmah had a real long debate with you over that at the beginning of this thread. The change in size from season to season in Antarctica is completely irrelevant to Climate Change. The ice that is melting there is Sea Ice and is not the problem. What is the problem is Glaciers and Ice Shelves melting which haven't melted for thousands of years, and are adding to the amount of water in the oceans. THAT is the sea-level increase of Global Warming problem. Another major problem is the increased frequency of storms and the intensity of them. You can't ignore Hurricane Katrina and the flooding in the UK over the past few years. Global Warming has been associated with an increase of disasters such as this.
As for the whaling; Iceland, Japan and the other whaling countries are speaking a load of bollycocks when they say scietific research. They look at the whale, write a few notes and then cut it up for meat. Not to mention Drive Hunts, those are the most horrible pictures I have ever seen of a dolphin. Thats why I refuse to go see a dolphin in captivity. Dolphins aren't often successfully bred in captivity, it just doesn't happen quick enough for demand. In reality, most of the dolphins in all these parks were caught in drive hunts or similar. No matter how well they are looked after the dolphins will still have memory of it.

Uh, people have to eat, and if whaling is how they get their food, then so be it. They're not going to stop just so some non-sentinent animal can live out the rest of its short, non-sentinent life.

Be prepared for hate-mail from a lot of people! XD
But honestly, its not their only source of income and their farm other things. They are also a developing superpower so trading is on the up. Most of the whale meat is stored in warehouses anyway because the Japanese public are mostly against whaling anyway. Its just their governments that are the problem.

Anyways, if whaling goes too far, then I'm pretty sure measures will be taken by other countries.

God, we need no more wars....... Most of the latest ones have been very poorly managed by the UK and the US alike...... *cough cough* Iraq..... *cough cough* The last thing we need is a Nuclear Winter on top of all this climate mayhem. Though I guess it would stop the Ice Caps melting, hehehe.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
Very true. When the world goes nuts when Climate Change really kicks in we will need allies. The last thing we would want to do is fight each other. Though that is not ruled out. When sea-levels rise there's gonna be a bit of fighting for space if you ask me.

that is the stupidest comment ive heard in quite a while
and before you get all *bleep*y again im insulting the comment because it is just plain wrong (yes you made the comment, but because of that you can deal with the consequences of making such a ridiculous statement)
people have to eat = true
whale is a delicacy = true
delicacies are generally expensive = true
delicacies are generally only affordable to the upper classes = true
so do you think it might be safe to assume that the majority population of Japan does not partake in whale meat on a frequent basis, if at all?
and would it also be safe to assume that regardless of how many people do or do not eat whale, that there are *bleep* loads of unendangered animals out there which are bred specifically for our fracking plates
but hey, by your logic i should go hunt humans, because heck ive gotta eat something
PS im not really a cannibal, i was making a point

Hey, don't ask me, I don't spend all my spare time researching a country that I have no intention to ever visit.
Oh, yeah, killing humans is against the law.

Hey, don't ask me, I don't spend all my spare time researching a country that I have no intention to ever visit.
ive never studied japan, i did a few years of japanese but they were nearly compulsory anyway, everything i said was just using the big ol' lumpy grey thing in my head to figure out that nobody needs to eat whale, (the delicacy thing is a bit of general knowledge) the only reason it still happens in japan is because of the huge amounts of money in it
and before you say "but people need money so its ok"
a) there are plenty of other things you can do to earn money
b) killing endangered species for any reason; meat, fur, sport, is illegal everywhere (or at least most places) the only exception i know of is japan and whales
Oh, yeah, killing humans is against the law.
so is whaling in most countries
but what does any of that matter, i have to eat, it just so happens i like the taste of human flesh, just like some japanese like the taste of whale meat, why should i be punished while they get away with it
Im far from a vegetarian, but there is a reason we have cows, sheep, chicken, fish, deer, goat, turkey, duck, etc. farms
PS i cant stress enough that i have not tasted human flesh, except when i accidentally bite my tongue

I wanna be a zoologist in the furture as well! Or at least study it at university. Pollution and hunting is wrong, I agree. But at the same time I see nothing wrong with eating meat. I do, and its always free range and has some sort of seal approving that the animal was killed in a humane way.

I'm a vegetarian, and i don't see anythng wrong with eating meat. I chose not to, it was my own choice, and i don't hate other people just because they eat meat, because that was THEIR choice.
Oh, and Pheonix_Flyer, I'm glad that you do eat meat that has been approved.

primitive compared to what exactly?
the whole concept of primitive vs civilised is based on humanity
considering animals also fight when they dont get their way, what exactly are we less civilised than?

Well, isn't civilised a relative term? Humans are not the only species who are a people.
Anywho, we are primitive creatures. When you think about some of the creatures that we humans call primitive, you can see they are pretty advanced.
There is a large lizard in South Africa (i think it's south africa) that has a set of rules to the fights between it's males for females and territory They do not used their sharp claws or teeth, but wrestle eachother. One of them hardly ever ends up dying from these duels, which is very smart.
Animals have no prejudices! they don't hate people or animals because they are different to them. Dogs act as if humans are their pack, despite the fact that humans are obviously not them.
Humans are among the very few animals where the women do all the dressing up to impress the male. Most of the species on earth are the other way around, which i think is more fair, and helps to explain why we are more primitive.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????
Well, isn't civilised a relative term? Humans are not the only species who are a people.
I'm pretty sure you will find that humans are most definitely the only species referred to as people (please keep in mind, elves/orcs/etc. are not currently recognised as being in existance)
I looked up definitions of the word and not one of them referred to anything other than humans here are 2 examples
1. a human being, whether man, woman, or child: The table seats four persons.
2. a human being as distinguished from an animal or a thing.
the closest anything came to backing you up was the legal definition referring to any being with the mental capacity to make decisions based on morals, and since currently humans are the only species known to make decisions not based entirely on instinct, you really havnt got a leg to stand on for that argument
as for civilised being a relative term, you are correct, its relative to the human species, the word was/is/has always been used to describe any race or species which is below us in terms of social interaction and technology
now since animals are definitely below us in technology, and since their social behaviour tends to be limited to kill/eat/mate/fight based on instinctual reactions, I would argue that socially we are still above animals
One of them hardly ever ends up dying from these duels, which is very smart.
please dont try to claim that the lizards all got together and said "hey, lets not fight to the death, cuz that would be bad kay?" because they didnt, and the fact stands that they still fight over territory and mates, the majority of humans on the other hand, do not fight over either of those things, and if they do, its fairly rare for it to be "to the death"
War is a different matter, the government of a country wants to go to war, then thats what happens, the majority of the human population has exactly NIL say in whether or not a war breaks out. and in saying that, like any animal, humans will protect what they believe is their territory, they will fight if they feel threatened, and like animals some are just aberrant sadists
Animals have no prejudices! they don't hate people or animals because they are different to them. Dogs act as if humans are their pack, despite the fact that humans are obviously not them.
their mind does not work on a significant enough level to care what a human looks like, as long as it doesnt seem to be threatening them then they have no reason to fear us.
prejudice comes about because people, like animals, will take their first encounter with, in this case a person, and use it to judge every encounter with that person.
if a dog is abused by a human it will be scared of humans until its given a reason not to be, humans hear a whole bunch of negative stereotypes about a race, and they judge every person of that race by those standards
Humans are among the very few animals where the women do all the dressing up to impress the male. Most of the species on earth are the other way around, which i think is more fair, and helps to explain why we are more primitive.
so reverse sexism = less primitive?
seriously are you really trying to say that its ok for the male to have to dress up, but somehow its unfair if the female has to attract the male?
not to mention your whole point is ridiculous, women don't have to dress up, they do so because like all animals both sexes judge the other based on appealing characteristics, large mammary glands and wide hips (shown off by a slender waist) are signs of a good childbearer
also if you even try to claim bull**** like "only women have to be attractive" youre a fool, I know a *bleep* large number of women will turn their heads at the sight of a toned muscular body, or a guy with rugged good looks in a nice suit
