Re: You wouldn't believe what some people believe!
I actually agree with teachers should carry guns. Of course they should be put through training before being given a gun.
This would up the safety in classrooms significantly.
It would be that or leave everyone unarmed. Don't think you'll be stopping the attacker that way ...

Re: You wouldn't believe what some people believe!
I disagree. Really, the idea of teachers possessing guns in the classroom for the sake of supposed "safety" is overdoing it. If anything, that would promote more of a danger to kids than promote safety:
1. No one said that teachers aren't any less capable of pulling the trigger (despite training), intentionally or unintentionally.
2. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if some dumb kid tried to steal the gun. Then he or she would pose a risk to the entire school.
So guns do not = safety. In the end, that idea can backfire really badly.

You don't see cops pull out their guns and start shooting everyone often ...
And these days, it's probably easier for a kid to purchase a gun rather than steal it right from the teacher. In some cases, it might not even be easy to steal the gun depending on placement or type of holster.

Re: You wouldn't believe what some people believe!
Kids really have some tricks up their sleeves, so having a gun holstered on your hips is far from kid-proof. And not all countries would just allow an under 18 kid without a license to just purchase a gun like that. (of course, a kid could steal a gun that his father already has for example, so that's pretty bad too)
Cops use guns for more valid reasons, and it's definitely a part of their job and training. As for teachers, their training would be of less priority than their actual teaching, so an entire training program required for all teachers would be rather costly and excessive. People apply jobs as teachers to teach, and many would feel that undergoing a training program is unnecessary to the actual point of their job. It probably would turn away a lot of people from becoming a teacher.
My whole point is, I think your idea of beefing up security by having teachers possess guns is ridiculous. That kind of security is not guaranteed, and it also promotes an atmosphere of fear and paranoia, not to mention it would worry parents to death.

Kids don't have to purchase guns from the store. These days, you can probably easily find sellers on the street. All you need is that extra bit of money.

Re: You wouldn't believe what some people believe!
Has anyone heard this one?
A woman can propose to an unmarried man on the 29th of February and he can't say no.
Or how about this one?
There is still an ancient bylaw saying that an Englishman inside York City Walls can shoot and kill a Scotsman with an arrow. (I think this ones weird, why didn't they get rid of this ages ago? Its pretty barbaric!)
There are apparently loads of Old English Bylaws still in force. I think its weird, if they are known about then why doesn't the council ammend them?

You're probably right on that account. In regards to gun laws, the law in Canada is different than it is for the US.

I'm pretty sure that its illegal to carry a gun, or even an immitation gun for that matter, here in the UK. And love your avatar bmah, Quilava is my second favourite! ![]()

Yeah, I used to watch a bunch of those "doomsday" shows all the time and they sometimes creeped me out. I realize now, of course, that 2012 is extremely unlikely. The earth will probably not end for another couple billion years or so. But even if it does end in 2012 (which it won't, in my opinion), instead of worrying about it (it would probably be inevitable anyway, nothing we could do to stop it), we might as well not think about it and just enjoy life now while we have it.

Does that mean on January 1st, 2013, we can all start laughing and yell "HAH! YOU WERE WRONG!"?

Re: You wouldn't believe what some people believe!
Let's do some actual beliefs. I find it amazing that some believe the earth is still flat.
My god! I know! Even photographic evidence didn't convince them. Not even the many people that circled the globe! And when you stare at the horizon at the beach, LOOK its got a slight curve! Also, when you take a telescope and look at other planets, Its not like earth would be the only planet thats flat! And what about earths path around the sun? Jeesus, those people are crazy! They need to go to collage!
