I'm confused, outraged and annoyed!

Okay, so today was French Idol, this thing that my school does. I was last year's champion, so I had to sing first this year. I sang His World by Crush 40, A Cappella I might add, which is even harder to do than with the instrumental. So because I went first, I had to get a lower score in order to make it fair to the other contestants, meanwhile I get an unfair score. The highest you can get is a 15 (A 5, a 5 and a 5, since there are 3 judges) I got a 10, all because I went first. The audience was outraged, because they felt that I deserved a better score than a 10, they thought I deserved a perfect score. THAT MAKES NO SENSE! THE PERSON WHO GOES FIRST AUTOMATICALLY GETS MESSED UP!? And to make matters worse, my dog was euthanized today. So now, my day's just filled with bad news.

No! It's like saying since I finished the megaquiz first and I have to get 10 marks off to get fair with the slow learners.

It's NOT fair! Who made those rules must be kicked between the legs (sorry admins...) because they bottleneck and make the contest biased.

Besides, it's not even easy going up first. You're the first one everyone will hear, which makes you a nervous wreck, even if you've done it before. Also, you don't hear anyone else so you won't gain any confidence, and there's always the chance everyone will get a higher score after you. They said they couldn't give me a perfect score because it wouldn't be fair. IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR!? I practiced for months for this day, and all I get is a 10, all because it wouldn't be fair to the other contestants.

That's tight, its like saying to a swimmer (such as meself) who swims the fastest even though you were in the first heat, you can't get a medal because you swam first..... Well at least you knew the audience was on your side, so technically you would have won so you shouldn't feel too annoyed.

Oh, and you know what? I came in second to last place because of that stupid handicap set on me. And here's something that REALLY annoys me. These 2 people sang "A Whole New World" from Aladdin... in ITALIAN, and they got a higher score than I did. It's French Idol, not Italian Idol, and they get a 14. They get a near perfect score singing in Italian, over someone who actually sang something in French!? No, that's just not right.

That's messed up.My 6th grade class sang.I sang His World by Zebrahead with my friends(We mad a group),Open Your Heart for the Hell of it,and Dreams of an Absolution.Our score.8/10.We went first.Second guys.They sang Live and Learn,and I Am All Of Me.Their score.9/10.
We should have gotten a 10/10.The other guys kept stuttering the words.The stunk bad.We rocked.It was so unfair.But we won anyway because they copied our little group idea.

The judges even said to me after French Idol was over; "We couldn't give you a perfect score as the first person, because then that wouldn't be fair to the others." Not fair to the others? Hah! That's the problem with competitions these days. It's all about self esteem, when competitions are really about talent. Either you have it, or you don't. And due to the fact that the audience booed the judges for the scores they gave me, apparently they thought I had it.

Same here.Everyone cheered when we were done with DoaA(freaking hard.)everyone cheered.I felt happie.Then they booed when we got the score.I think I heard 3 people say 10/10.

That's soooo dumb. Who said that going first or last or whatever placement is a factor of fairness? I can see why, say, a judge would be more lenient if you were the first contestant because it's a bit more nerve wracking. But saying that you couldn't get a higher or a perfect score because it's not fair is completely stupid! If you pwned everyone else, then there's no reason why a 15/15 shouldn't be a 15/15.

Here's something else I notice a lot.
It's typical for judges ranking something on a subjective level to deliberately avoid giving someone a perfect score. For example, if you wrote one of the best essays in your class that definitely seemed like 100/100, the teacher probably would give something like 98/100 because he or she just couldn't give you a 100. It's as if getting a perfect score seemed impossible, so a slightly lower score would seem more plausible. Well as I said earlier, if you're top notch, there's no reason why 100/100 shouldn't be 100/100.

Aw. I'm sorry. That really just doesn't make any sense. I guess they're just trying to give everyone else a chance at winning. Even though they probably don't deserve it. Especially the Italian singers in a French competition ...
You should just quit it. No point in doing it again if they're just going to screw you over again. You should also get a lot of other people to quit or just have lots of people complain about that.

My school's teams are referred to as the Warriors (not going to say which kind) When I won last year, it was the first time I'd ever won some sort of competition, so I got what our school refers to as, Warrior Pride. The fact that I didn't stand a chance this year, that I had no chance of even holding onto my title as champion, honestly... that's destroyed my pride. Singing used to be a way of escaping stress for me. Now... all it brings now is more stress, because I practiced for this since November, used up all that time, only to have it come crashing down on me in the end, all because I was hobbled by a large deal. I hereby turn my back on singing. I will never sing again.

I agree with Bmah, it is just like how they put 99% on the labels instead of 100% even when they know it is 100% fat free. Oh and the judges are REALLY UNFAIR, WHY DO YOU GET A LOWER SCORE FOR GOING FIRST? HOW IS IT FAIRER? WTF I FEEL LIKE GOING UP TO THEM AND SHOOTING THEM BETWEEN THE EYES.

Yup... Seen that. They bottleneck the grades and throttle them at 99%. But some give me a 100% once.
