Re: eragon an me

I have never read it. Don't kill me, but to tell the truth, I don't like dragons. Only the dragons on Spyro.

Love the book....movie was enough to make me never think of Eragon the same way....will still read, but still very very VERY sad on how the movie turned out.

Re: eragon an me

There is not an option in that poll for how much I hate that series. And not just for the bad writing (which I could forgive). Plagiarists shouldn't be rewarded so much. >(

Re: eragon an me

This explains it all better than I could:
http://www.anti-shurtugal.com/wordpress/?cat=7

It's not mentioned there, but a scene in Eragon was ripped nearly word for word out of one of my favorite books and that I find repugnant.

Re: eragon an me

i see but i still think the  worst one ever is harsh yes it can almost relate to star wars but...... how can brom really be his father when clearly

Hidden text

the shade mortzan is clearly stated to be his Father an mutahug is alive an his brother

an how can arya be his sister if in fact shes an elf an i know princess leaha an arya are both princess but still a lot of story's have princess like that like ion my magisties dog an I'm sorry to say how can a dragon be misunderstood ad r2d2 hes a robot smalish an saphira she a big blue beautiful beast not a gold metal thing an yes OK i bet he did have an idea from it to give it the edge of an ending like all good books t.v. shows an great theings take the new shoe the Sarah Connor terminator show its a rip of the movie but its interesting an follows the plot of other things like hero's an almost all dragon type stuff is based on things that are from some were else  an that  even in art you can take things like pictures from google an see them an use the same idea but make it you own in the way your creativity expresses so no i think it is some what based on star wars but did he copy any write or saying [glow=yellow:c67ffb3bf1]no[/glow:c67ffb3bf1] did he use the same plot or use any of the plot lines or did he use the pricess father yoda thing [glow=yellow:c67ffb3bf1]a little but just for the girl an not even that's plausibly[/glow:c67ffb3bf1] an farther  more
to recap the dragon is Not a robot a dragon eragon is nothing like Luke just the fact that he was tookin form his home drastlicy yes he uses big wars like star [glow=cyan:c67ffb3bf1] wars[/glow:c67ffb3bf1]  an brom  i quote
"even if Brom is revealed to be Eragon’s father, I doubt it will have much effect on the overall plot, which I fully expect to follow Return of the Jedi with some degree of faithfulness."
so i bet alot of people would agree it dose use star wars like things but it doesn't make the book  horiably

Re: eragon an me

The gist of the article is that Paolini plagiarized "Star Wars" (for a start, anyways). This is more than just using the model of the epic story. He's telling "Star Wars" with dragons.

Eragon is equivalent to Luke (he even looks like Luke and has a similar background; raised by his uncle, blond, son of the bad guy's right hand man, etc.). Brom is equivalent to Obi Wan (wise old mentor, takes Eragon under his wing, was once a Jedi...I mean dragon rider, etc). Arya is equivalent to Leia (she's a princess, is supposedly a strong female character, is Eragon's love interest, etc (though I doubt she's his sister)). And so it goes.

It's not just "Star Wars" that Paolini ripped off, either. He stole ideas from: JRR Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, Bruce Coville, Ursula K. LeGuin, and many other authors. And he ripped them off badly. The only reason his books ever saw the light of day is because his parents owned a publishing house already, were rich enough to afford to tour with their son, and happened to catch the eye of a big publishing house.

I have nothing against people who actually like the books (my best friend in the world is a big fan), but you did ask me why I hate them so. Now you know.

Don't forget Razz: Oromis= Yoda. A wise person who helps Eragon on his quest. The last Jedi...Rider from the old times. Wasn't supposed to have survived the war.

Re: eragon an me

Actually Razz, to discredit the whole "Morzan is Eragon's father" theory, here's something from Eldest. The white raven, Blagden, said: "Son as oblivious as his father (or something to that extent)."  Brom never expected Morzan to betray the Riders with Galbatorix. "Half brothers shall fight" - Eragon and Murtagh are brothers yes, but we only know for certain that they share Selena.

Even though it's impossible to lie in the Ancient Language, it could be misinformed and what a person BELIEVES to be true. Murtagh BELIEVES Morzan to be Eragon's father, when actually... Brom could be Eragon's father.

Re: eragon an me

I haven't made it past the first book yet. It hurts too much to read it. >D

I'm using the more obvious logic: Paolini is about as original as a raven is orange, therefore, Morzan is his daddy and Murtagh is his brother, just like the books predictably say. Paolini's not good enough to put any actual depth in his stories. So far, nothing has caught me by surprise in this series (well, what I've read of it). I guess if they make that second movie, I'll be surprised.

actually razz there is much depth in the book cause eragon has to free the world of an evil dictator that kill melously like hitler an really you cant even have a say in it if you have only read the first couple of chapters an yes it would be suprizeing if they make a second movie cause the first one in my opinion the writes left out or added alot of parts  an how was muthagh being his brother an his father being a evil shade be predictable cause muthagh  he saposently died an his mother was a like a shadow  cause she left him at birth the uncle brought eragon up so how is all you say predictable yes it can i parts be like i said before its  like starwars but.....

its like when you draw you take ideas from other pictures anyou make it your own

Re: eragon an me

Oh, don't even try to justify him. Your arguments won't sway me and they hold no water but I'm too tired to dig up the nicely worded response. I've read the book and I loathe it. I'd like to smack Paolini upside his thieving head for all of his "homages". And I think you missed the part where I mentioned that he stole, nearly word for word, a scene out of one of my favorite books.

If I am to interupt this argument: Chris also put in a few things that I never noticed until I saw a link that Razz put up somewhere.

Also, Only reason I read the books is pretty much Saphira and a few other things. (I read 2, mind as well finish it). It's good, don't get me wrong, but he did rip off a some people...

[glow=red:82d2e8414a]Me? I loved Eragon I got Eldest for Christmas the year it came out and was finished on Boxing day. To be honest I didn't notice the similarities between Inheritance and Star Wars etc until I heard about it on a website most people usually don't. To be honest though you don't often get any original series any more, most books, movies and songs were inspired by another one, so in my opinion noone seems to have any original ideas anymore.[/glow:82d2e8414a]
