Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
You're just thinking the wrong way. If you want school to be more bearable, you have to start off on the right foot, and that certainly doesn't include being pessimistic about school in the first place (e.g. you're already thinking "go or get tortured"). You've gotta change your mindset about school, and since what you've experienced so far doesn't seem very promising, it helps if you have an incentive. A goal with a reward at the end or something; think of one. Otherwise, you won't get enough steam to keep yourself going in your situation. Try it.

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
What goal? "I aim to get a good mark in Maths", i dont give a *bleep* if i get a good mark in Maths frankly... besides i always get good marks in maths and school, so i have already achieved my goal their. Everyone at my school is an idiot, they spread rumours on there friends, they aren't really friendly to their friends, the only have friends because thety like to show off to each other, so popularity is not a happy goal. I cant stay happy in school because there isn't anything to be happy about, it waists my time and just makes me more frustated, I get realy depressed while in school, but in the holidays i'm as happy as larry... coincidence you say? I am not making myself unhappy, it just makes me unhappy itself. I am only being pesimistic because that is what i have to be about school, its not like its my choice to get to school, and my choice if i want to succeed in school, i HAVE to

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
Ok, so your goal seems to be: "# of days before school is over". Rinse and repeat. Well, not much else I can say other than keep your head up. If you're doing well in school already and you're bored, maybe you should think of a totally new goal. Like, not related to school. Because if you're not doing badly in school, you needn't worry too much.

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
Ratchet why don't you just think of it like I do sometimes. Think of it as a chance to improve and make yourself better. To build yourself so you can look down on those jerks eventually and laugh because you became so superior and they are just insignificant. Doing well in school will pay off. Just try to be better and better.

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
Its not a chance, its a Dictatorship, and really this "chance" doesn't work. How will maths help me in the future? Will it help me in most jobs?, will it help the planet succeed in wars? no! The kids are not dumb, they just aren't friendly, some of them get higher marks than me. School doesn't "build" me, it weakens me.
PS. i had alot more to say on that post earlier, but it got cut short because my parents wanted me to have dinner, i said to them that i wanted to finish writing "stuff" and then i'd come, they didn't listen and threatened to turn the computer off with yelling and screaming at me. I dont like my parents, especially my mother, she nags and nags and always thinks that i am wrong, she thinks that because i am a child i should shut my mouth and do as told. The fact is, i just want to be myself, i dont want to have all these responabilities... i dont want to break the law either. Basicly, i get in trouble because i dont do things, not because i do things.
They dont know that i am on A spyro forum, if they knew that they'd ask questions and questions, and i hate it when i have to asnswer these questions. My mother thinks that video games are pointless that that Education and labour is the best thing in the world. Me and my mother are two very different people, normally she shuts me off because she cannot win arguements. My parents dont like to listen to my complains, they just want me to shut up and do everything they tell me to do.

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
@ratchet: You'll be surprised at how many times you'll re-encounter stuff you learned in school when you take post-secondary courses. I really don't like anything math-related, but I soon found out that it's pretty *bleep* difficult to avoid. You'll find math in anything from biology to psychology. So really, school's not pointless, but it might seem so now, so don't be disillusioned. Right now it's like, "I'm doing trigonometry, so what? Does it mean anything?" but later you'll apply trig to a lot of other things (like game design oh my) as an example. I'm saying this from my experiences since I've completed grade school already, so I'm not making things up.
Lastly, if you're constantly complaining about school, why don't you try some of the advice suggested throughout the thread (before turning them down saying it's pointless)? I'm trying to help you, but it's like you're not allowing me to. What more do you want?

It depends on which career path you take in the future. I had a slightly similar attitude when I was your age. Don't worry. Things will become clearer.

Well I already gave you an example. Repost:
"...school's not pointless, but it might seem so now, so don't be disillusioned. Right now it's like, "I'm doing trigonometry, so what? Does it mean anything?" but later you'll apply trig to a lot of other things (like game design oh my) as an example.
More specifically, you need to be a handyman at math formulas to work out coding and algorithms in game programming.
Or let's say you wanted to program the game physics. You need a ton of math in physics (probably calculus based) which I presume you may apply when creating the physics of a game. Like, maybe you wanted to create awesome graphics of water and waves in a boat-racing game. You'll want to know how to create the reflectivity of the water (so that it looks like real water) and you'll also want to know how to simulate wave motion. You'll learn stuff about light and wave/harmonic motion in physic classes. You'll use trig to, oh let's say, measure the angle of reflection or refraction of a light ray hitting a surface/medium. Eventually all of those calculations may end up getting to where you want; then maybe you can create realistic water in the game. So you need to have an understanding of physics to understand how light interacts, and you'll use that in the game. And you'll need math to understand physics.
Specific enough?

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
Dunno if they offer this where you are: Sometimes you get the opportunity to take 2 years of high school instead of 4. But it usually comes with more work.
You should try to look into ways you can take less years of school. Sometimes they benefit you, and sometimes they hurt you.
You know, you complain a lot, lol. Not be mean or anything, but besides complaining, have you tried discussing this with someone else? You obviously have a voice. If that doesn't work, try sometimes else. If all fails, then oh well - looks like you're stuck. You're just going to have to toughen up and get over it along with the other millions of kids out there. You can only get stronger.

Depends on the school system. I find it strange that there are 4 years of high school in the US (grades 9-12), because in Canada, high school lasts 3 years (grades 10-12).

Same story here. My parents and family (even the distant ones) know NOTHING of my internet activity. I just tell that I email my friends back in the Philippines and that's it. If I told them that I have a account like this, they will start digging around. Revealing my whole life which I fear.
If my activity on Internet Realms has been revealed by my parents they will get rid of all my hardware for sure. Heck, they threatened to sell my laptop for one cent if I got a single fail a few years ago. I refuse to! This is the only true, welcome place I have left! I spilled my thoughts here and never heard a shut up from anyone! I tried telling them my problem and they just say "get on with it!" like nothing! :'(

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
Ouch. My brother took my password off when I put one on there ... Made me mad. He seems to always be going through my computer.
My parents, especially my mom, usually think I'm doing "bad" stuff on the computer because I usually keep my door shut and I'm usually on late. Next thing I know, my mom's banging on the door telling me to open it. Then she asks what I'm doing.
A little privacy please?

Re: Not Another Depressing Thread!
I control everything electronic in the house, so snooping on my systems is impossible. My main laptop (this one I'm typing on) has a really long password and I only use it, my dad has his own laptop, the rest of my family goes on the computer I set up. Plus the internet that goes to the rest of my family is filtered so the forums I joined in is impossible to access, like this one. So unless they "crack" my password (50 letters FTW!) they can't touch it.
@Ratchet: Why not move it yourself? You can simply disassemble the PC piece by piece and move the pieces and put them together again. ![]()
