Re: Movie Discussion Thread
Yeah, I've been hearing it's good. And apparently there's some kind of controversy about it being racist because the characters are white? Which tbh just makes me want to see it more.
I noticed that too. I just assumed it was because it takes place in times before people of all races lived together, but, controversy makes life more interesting. ![]()

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
There will never be a time when people stop whining about characters' skin
color. *bleep*, leave them alone it's just a movie with characters in it. If you
don't like it then lock yourself in your closet and cry. I have no problem with
all-(race) movies so why should anyone else care about all-white movies?

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
i think the idea of forcing different races into movies is more racist than just not including them. whenever i see *anything*, it's like WE GET IT THERE'S A BLACK GUY IN THE MOVIE.
they should have skin color based on what the writer(s) say the colors should be. it's their story. if they all happen to be white, that's fine. if they include other races, that's fine, too.

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
Then they call it things like "racial discrimination" so they can justify it.
It's like me watching Madea movies (which I like) and getting angry and
saying "Where's all the white people!?"
Smells like racial elitism to me.

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
It's funny, because I never hear anyone complain about a lack of whatever race in a movie, but when a movie includes different races to appeal, I hear people say the movie's trying to appeal, which is a complaint I understand, I suppose. Look at Lord of the Rings. I haven't seen it in a year or so, but I don't recall ANY characters who weren't white. And no one complains, and really, they shouldn't. Because in the story, all of the characters are white. I agree with 36; the characters should be whatever race the writers say they should be.

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
I wish more people thought like you guys, haha. I'm of the belief that if you think there's an under-representation of <race>, <gender>, <sexuality>, <insert thing here>, you should try doing something about it yourself instead of complaining. Make your own movie, your own video games, you own books, or simply buy ones you are happy about and ignore the others. It's nice if people want to include more diversity on their own, but no one is entitled to forcing the creators of media doing anything just to please them.
It's like that woman who made the documentary about video games being sexist.... She admitted herself that she doesn't like video games, but somehow she thinks it's her business to complain that there aren't more Strong Female Characters while completely misrepresenting the games she used as examples. I'll post her videos some time in that other thread. ![]()

Is that the woman that does the tropes thing on youtube? :-p
If so I know who you mean!
I remember on the oh so liberal 4 news (god I cannot stand how up them selves they are!) were doing a interview about a show about video games :-p and clearly the interviewer had no clue as what he was doing!
He was throwing allegations of sexism in video games and the guy he was interviewing just said "it is actually very sexist, for you to imply that girls don't play video games plenty do, we found and spoke to plenty that do!"
The interviewer just scoffed "I imagine they were few and far between!"
What a load of crap! Stop trowing allegations around because you can.

I never noticed it had all-white characters. Then again, maybe less than half
of the characters are actually human. And if King Candy was black/Mexican
then people would still whine because he looks like a crazy nut.

Spoiler for language and bad thing
This is a guy who is known for writing articles on the internet for about ten years on his website called "The Best Page in the Universe." He recently started making video adaptations of some of his articles, and this one's about sexism in video games. I don't agree with everything this guy says, but this video pretty much describes how I feel about the topic.

Also he'd be the villain! and my god if you have a villan who isn't a white man then you are both a racist and/or sexist pig!
As for that vidio, he has a point, I hate seeing the whole "ERGMEHGERD I CAN't GET A JOB IN THAT THING CAZ IM A WOMAN AND ITS SOO MALE DOMINETD ND MEN R SEXISSTT!!!111"
I once saw somone on twitter do it, usually I do agree on some of her points, and I do like some of her funny tweets, but this time was just saying "I'd love to write a novel like Lord of the Rings, but as a Woman I cannot because the industry is dominated by MEN. So as a woman I would have to use a MAN'S NAME AS MY pen name!"
I just thought, if you want to write a fantasy novel, just do it.

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
Cool, a movie thread. I'll see if I can get this one going again. I have the whole house to my self while my semester break winds down, so I've been watching a bunch of movies I never got around to seeing.
So I watched the Matrix for the first time today. It was pretty good, though I was expecting a little more out of it to be honest. Nostalgia trip when Rob Zombie music from Gran Turismo 2 started playing. I noticed that there is a bunch of sequels. Are they any good?
Also saw Pacific Rim, and I have to say: I enjoyed that movie a lot more than I think I should have. There was just something so awesome about seeing giant mechs fighting monsters I guess. ![]()

Re: Movie Discussion Thread
My favourite movie of all time is how to train your dragon and that's probably not going to change for a while. I have yet to see an animated movie that will blow me away as much as that movie. Well, except maybe the second how to train your dragon coming out this summer. But yeah, gotta wait to see that
I don't watch too many live action movies, the only ones i enjoy are a few fantasies and superhero movies, sometimes I'll watch comedies that are on tv if I'm really bored. (I love godzilla though. maybe the new godzilla will become my new favourite movie of all time, we'll see...)

I agree; the characters in Pacific Rim weren't all the interesting to me either (some of them were pretty cringeworthy too, like the scientists), but I did appreciate that the main character was just a normal guy who wasn't always brooding over his dark past the whole time like every other movie protagonist.
