I sampled all of those and didn't particularly care for them. They weren't all bad, and they were definitely better than what I usually think of as metal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them again.

The growling especially is still just... weird to me.

The growling especially is still just... weird to me.

growling can be used for three things:

1) added brutality, usually used in death metal, another genre i don't really like
2) an added dimension of emotion: simple singing cannot convey how deeply this person feels about something, this works well in gothic and doomy stuff
3) SHREDDEEEEEED WHEAT! SHREEEDDEEEEEEEEDED WHEEEEEEAT

But see, that's still only my opinion of it. Take KingLambda here. He didn't notice a difference at all. And there are probably some people out there who like the "bad" stuff and don't like your "good" stuff.

I usually hate pulling the subjectivity card, but I really think it's valid here.

On another note, the way you squish all your quote tags together makes it really hard to quote back. tongue
