Re: KONY 2012
KONYs a meme now. That is all.
Then we have succeeded...
And response to the youtube video: LRA has not been in Uganda for 6 years. I don't see any point in the original video stating that they are currently in Uganda.

Re: KONY 2012
Didn't it also say they haven't been heard from since 2006? I've heard that from quite a few places now. Seems a bit pointless to be raising awareness about something that's not even happening anymore.
Edit: okay, so according to wikipedia it might be more like 2009 or 2010, but still....

In Uganda, the LRA is still very active in the Congo.

Re: KONY 2012
Okay, I found this and thought people might be interested in reading it. It's the group's defense of its criticisms. It has a paragraph about "implying the war is in Uganda" but doesn't exactly explain why they did that when that's apparently not correct. Also, am I missing it, or are the founders' salaries not on their graph at all? Assuming this is trustworthy (I've heard that they refuse to be audited, while they say that that's not true) it doesn't look like they keep the whole 70ish percent that doesn't go to the African programs for themselves.

Here is an article about one of their worst attacks, taken place in 2010.
The reason Uganda is mentioned so much is because they are currently the fighting force against the LRA. For over 25 years, the LRA was situated mostly in Uganda, and only recently retreated into the Congo. Almost all the children in the LRA are Ugandan, and Kony himself was indicted for Uganda by the ICC. Not to mention almost all of relief efforts are situated in Uganda, along with almost all of IC's work.
I thought I remember at one point in the movie they talked about how he retreated in the Congo, but I'm too lazy to watch the entire movie again.

Read on Charity Navigator about what they have passed. They have only missed 1 out of 17 of the requested parts of information. They have a 4 out of 4 financially, and the only thing they miss is that they don't have a complete board of 5 members.

Re: KONY 2012
tell me this, neotyguy, if you know how "crappy" the organization is, why are you still defending them?
I know for a fact how crappy they run their organization. Now I wouldn't donate to them at all, not because they are a scam or can't handle money well, but because they are a lobbyist group.
one minute, you're talking about how awful they are, but you make post after post trying to praise them.
I am not saying that IC is efficient (it isn't efficient at all), but it is far from 'shady'. The reason they've received so much backlashed is because they are not led by someone who is very 'educated'. They aren't good with money or politics, but they are far from 'shady'.
if they're so bad with money and politics, and they're so inefficient, then aren't they pretty much as bad as a scam anyway? also, you said we don't need to pay to raise awareness, but that's exactly what our heroes at IC want everybody to do, buy the action kits so we can put stickers and posters everywhere.

I don't get the logic behind the campaign name. I thought he was running against Obama for the Democratic nomination.
EDIT: or the Communist party nomination.

Because the issue with the organization isn't black or white. They spend a large amount of their money on lobbying. They don't have political or business degrees (the only reason I called them 'crappy', which I think was too strong a word), but the 'Kony 2012' campaign has been extremely successful so far (as opposed to their previous 'inefficient' campaigns).
The only thing I am defending are the facts, and it annoys me when people come in, post a link to a blog, and everyone else believes exactly what it says without looking for the information themselves.

Re: KONY 2012
I've said this on so many sites, and I will say it again:
I have been called heartless too many times to count in the past few days when Kony started trending. Wrongly oppressing children is unjust, such evil angers me, but I do not understand purpose. But, I do not appreciate the same *bleep*ing posts about 'make Kony famous' flooding every part of the internet, I do not appreciate being told I'm a horrible person because I will not post/share/reblog *bleep* about Kony, and mostly, I do not care about people suddenly becoming an activist. Congratulations! I'm sure posting *bleep* about Kony will help SO much. Do not get me wrong, I do sympathize for those children, and I acknowledge it is to raise awareness and I applaud their efforts. Their message is about awareness, I am aware, it's purpose is now complete.
On a side note, I'd love to see half the *bleep*ing population of Kony supporters point to Uganda on a map.

It's gotten so out of hand. That Gamefaqs started to mod threads about Kony. Look at the current events board and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Re: KONY 2012
You know, I'm getting sick of how this thread hasn't even been about the issue itself. Just people complaining and whining about the campaign.
This forum use to be the only board I could go and see other people's opinions on issues, entertainment, and daily life stuff. Guess the *bleep* is getting a bit larger.
Could we actually try to talk about what's going on?

Re: KONY 2012
I don't think it's a *bleep*. While you may have a strong opinion about the legitimacy of this organization and the validity of the call to activism/awareness, it's not that easy for all of us to make up our minds about it with all these conflicting sources of information floating around. How are we supposed to tell which sources are trustworthy and which aren't?
As for why we're talking more about the organization and the campaign than the issue, first of all, the thread is presented as being about the KONY 2012 campaign, and secondly, everyone obviously agrees already that it's bad to kidnap children and make them into soldiers, so there's not much to say about it. That really would be a *bleep*.
It's understandable that you're feeling pressured or attacked because everyone is going to you to defend the organization, but please try to understand where we're all coming from too.

Couldn't of said it better my self. I mean neo, like she says what else can we say about the subject when we all know that Koney is doing bad stuf. theres not much else to say about seen as realy the main thing about this corporation now, is the fact that all this Scandle surrounding the Charity has poped up. To be honest I think thats more intresting to debate abouyt rather then simpley saying "Koney is evil"
EDIT; on the other hand Furry intrigued me to look up the meme. I feel like an a*** hole but i lol'd so much xD
