2012 is just another example of religious dogma that some people believe with no evidence at all about what will happen. Worse yet, most people that DON'T believe that it will happen use it as a way to basically say, "Hey guys, I'm smarter than the average person because I don't believe something that I apparently think everyone else does. I'm so cool!"

If you tell people you believe it, you make yourself look like an idiot in the public's eye.
If you tell people you don't, you make yourself look like a self-centered jerk in the public's eye.

I'm sorry for coming off a bit strong (especially considering the conversation hasn't really escalated to 'that' level yet), but we've had these conversations before on this forum. It doesn't lead to anything good. It's just going to end up one or two people trying to give evidence about it while everyone else circles around and picks on them.

^ I completely agree; this is exactly what I thought about the rapture thing a few months ago. Almost no one actually did believe in it (I hadn't even heard of it until like a week before it was supposed to happen), but that didn't stop some people from parading around like they're the most intelligent beings on earth for not believing it and gloating when it didn't happen. Then I got told I was just trying to be "counter-culture" by being annoyed by that.... -__-
