Re: Nintendo Slashes 3DS Price to $169.99, Early Adopters Get Free Games

I think they could sell a LOT of consoles if they gave everyone who bought it a couple free virtual console games (sort of like the Ambassador program, but for everyone). Maybe give everyone the 10 NES games they promised early adopters.
It would probably be a smart move on their part because of the lackluster launch titles. Once Mario hits the stores though, those things will be flying off the shelves.

It's not as good as a laptop for games or typing, but it very useful for everything else a computer traditionally does. It's a convenience sort of thing, and it is much easier to pull out an iPad and use the browser on that than it is with a laptop (it's also pretty good with drawing, but not a replacement for a dedicated tablet).
I would never trade my laptop for an iPad, but I would never doubt it's usefulness again. I never even gave any thought into what I would need it for until my uncle actually gave me it at Christmas. Now I find all sorts of uses for it.
I suppose I should keep an open mind. I'm sure if I got one as a gift, I would probably enjoy it too. It just bugs me how sticking the Apple brand on something can make the price go up by hundreds of dollars, when the product isn't much better than the other, more affordable and practical things on the market. As long as people pay for it I guess. (including my old high school, which bought a couple class sets of iPads for who knows what reason.
)
Also, one thing that annoys me about the 3DS is that the Start button is really close to the Power button. I was playing Ocarina of Time and accidentally pressed Power instead of pausing the game. Guess I have to do the whole Fire Temple again. RAGE

Agreed. They could get away with selling the iPad for around $350 since the manufacturing cost is around $300. Not to mention they get a majority of their money from people buying apps in iTunes.

How did you do that? If I want to turn it off, I need to purposely put a reasonable amount of pressure on it for at least a good half second.
One of my major concerns is how I will be able to fit all of my downloaded games onto the 2GB SD Card. I know I could go out and buy a 16GB (or at least an 8GB) for next to nothing, but I'm still annoyed how they don't ever seem to put a reasonable amount of storage in ANY of their consoles. The 2GB is a pretty big jump from their normal standards, but I feel they could have put at least a 4 or 8GB in there easily.

List of games that interest me for the 3DS.
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time
Shin Megami Tensai Devil Survivor Overcloaked.
Tales of the Abyss 3D
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
So that's four games. 2 of which aren't even out yet.1 of which has no confirmed release date. C'mon Nintendo the DS had great RPG games(Radiant Historia,Buy it...now) The 3DS must follow with good ones as well.

Paper. In 3D. o_o All joking aside, that game looks pretty fun. Kind of like a RPGish Pokemon style game. I know there were previous Paper Mario games, but I haven't played them.

Well to be honest it was pretty late and I was tired. You have to press the Start button pretty hard until it clicks as well, so I pressed down pretty hard on what I thought was the Start button and it went off. Not sure why they thought they needed to move the Start and Select buttons. I liked the style and placement of them better on my original DS. Guess I'm just nitpicking now.
Can't memory be stored on the system as well? I thought it was pretty generous that they included and SD card at all to be honest. I'm sure if they included a better SD card it would end up being factored into the price anyway.

You're not nitpicking. I dislike the placement of the power button too. I'm not annoyed at where the start and select buttons are though (note how every single handheld up until the DS had the start and select buttons down in the middle). I think the power button should have been somewhere discrete where your hands aren't near. Similar to the GBA SP (THAT was a well-placed power switch there). But they can easily fix this through software by not making it shut down the application you're using.
Can't memory be stored on the system as well? I thought it was pretty generous that they included and SD card at all to be honest. I'm sure if they included a better SD card it would end up being factored into the price anyway.
[i]Maybe I'm the one nitpicking. The saved data for 3DS and DS games are on the game chip itself (except Streetpass data). Everything else is on the SD card itself. I'm not sure how much space a GBA game takes up, so that is my primary concern with it right now. I guess I should at least be happy that they let me change out the card in the first place. I'm right now planning on putting an 8GB card in, so that should be enough to fit all the games they're going to give out.

Wow, that quote chain was getting a little oversized...
I don't see what was wrong with the classic switch on the side for a power button. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. =P

Well I was looking through the Virtual Console titles the other day and the largest size I saw was 47 blocks. (which LoZ Link's Awakening from the GBC) Most other ones were close to 40. My 3DS says it has close to 12,000 blocks left...so even with 20 downloaded titles (let's be generous and say they're all 50 blocks) that would only be 1,000 blocks used, leaving you with about 11,000 left over. I would say you're probably in the clear with the 2gb SD card for a while. I am such a freaking nerd for actually figuring that out...

Wow, at least that gets rid of my worries of not having enough space.
Though I still wonder how big a GBA game is. I am thinking about buying Link's Awakening, but I actually never finished Pokémon Diamond (funny, never bothered to pass the 3rd gym leader for some reason).
I actually have some pretty funny Pokémon stories. When I first played Pokémon Red, I wasn't able to read most of the words. I didn't understand how to catch Pokémon (and never really knew I could), so I actually played the entire game with a single Charizard. I eventually learned how in Pokémon Gold, so I went back and played the proper way.
Truthfully, I never fully understood what was actually going on until I got Sapphire. Technically I also didn't know the majority of the game's mechanics until Diamond, such as breeding, contests, and even simple things like using items.
I'm hoping the 3rd version of Pokémon Black/White (Grey?) will be a 3DS title. I would much rather prefer to get that than a normal DS game. I'm also thinking about getting HeartGold, but I'm not really sure.
I'm really going to take my time with Diamond though. I'm actually catching more than my 6 allocated Pokémon (I didn't before), and I plan on trying to make some strong bred Pokémon to trade into 'Grey'.

Diamond is one of the weaker pokemon games in my book. It's not bad, But the others are better. I'm more of a Soulsilver guy as well. I'm also hoping for the third version of Black/White for the 3DS.

I agree. I think the reason I never really finished it was because I just couldn't get 'hooked' into it. But now that I am actually playing for more than just the simple 'hack-n-slash' part, I'm starting to enjoy it more. Granted, I probably would've liked the others 10x more if I did the same thing with them, but I still enjoy it, so I won't let that bother me.
I was actually very into Pokémon when I was younger. I have both Red+Blue, Gold+Crystal, Ruby+Sapphire, FireRed+LeafGreen (two LeafGreens actually, but I don't know where the second came from), and Diamond.

Been playing Pokemon since i was a kid. Still playing it now. Although i never had both of a version. Since basically there the same game. Only with some minor differences that's it.

Well, my sister use to play it with me (before she became LAME). So what would happen was I would get Red, and then she got Blue. I got Gold, she got Crystal. I got Sapphire, and she... Sort of stopped right after she got Ruby. I forget how I even got FireRed and LeafGreen (two in that fact), because I don't even think I ever asked or wanted it.

Price definitely has my attention now, cause at $250 it just looked way over expensive for a handheld. Although I'm still going to wait it out until there is a larger library of games available on it.

Never played Metroid or Ice Climbers. Not really interested in the Golf game or Yoshi though.
Wonder what the unspoken GBA games will be?

To do list:
1. Jailbreak 3DS
2. Rip ROMS from my old GameBoy and GBA games.
3. Play GoldenSun for the next 3 weeks and play ALL the Pokémon games.
I'd rather have the Vita. For god sakes people Persona 4 is going to it. That alone is worth the console for me.
Really? I own Eternal Punishment. I completely hated that game. Is 4 better?

Why yes i did came back just to answer your question(Well really it's because i need to turn off that option that sends e-mails to you every time there's a reply)
As for your question. Yes Persona 3 and Persona 4 were way better than the 1 and 2nd one.Well i only played the first one on the PSP and that game SUCKED!! Never played 2.
Persona 4 basically is the best in the series. And one of my favorite games of all time. That games pretty much the reason why I'm going to drop $300 bucks for a Vita and $60 bucks for a port made by Atlus. Fanboy. Me?

Fanboy. Me?
Don't quit so abruptly. You don't have to worry, you are still labeled as the hater. XD
I'll look into it, but I'm definitely not going to buy any handheld game for $60. Heck, I won't even get one for $50 ![]()
But I think this is more proof that people are interested in remakes.

Re: Nintendo Slashes 3DS Price to $169.99, Early Adopters Get Free Games
Makes sense. People have completely lost their faith in JRPGs now these days. Now the industry is all about FPS games, Which to me is a cancer on the industry.
Since Atlus is also one of the few companies in the world that i will actually go fanboy over(the others being Suda 51 and Team ICO) i will gladly support them any way i can.
