PSN
I'm a little tired of waiting for PSN to get back on. Anybody else feel this way?
I am aware that some of you don't have or don't like PS3 and prefer Microsoft and/or Nintendo consoles. Well, this is your chance to gloat. As a avid fan for everything Sony, they have truly let me down this time. And I know the hackers are the ones to blame, but I can't help but be mad at the people behind PSN for this unfortunate event.
If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, here's an article explaining the temporary death of Sony's online gaming and entertainment network used on PS3's, the Playstation Network:
http://techland.time.com/2011/04/25/pla … %E2%80%99/
Until they get their act together, which is always slated as "real soon," PS3 users are unable to download game demos, movies, interact with friends, play games online, and other stuff that Sony decided to stick their nose into any time your PS3 connected to the internet.
Some of the ingenious features put into games have been shown face down as well. In GT5 (yes I'm still playing that game), you have the ability to create computerized driver personalities and build their careers up in game. You can even share these personalities with your friends so they can race them with other computerized drivers. Except when you decide to share them over the PSN, they become locked from offline use until you log them out of the network. Well, since PSN is down, I am unable to use my drivers because they are effectively "stuck" online. How inconvenient.
My rant is done.

Wake me up... when September ends is here...

Learn what a hacker is. >_>
Edit: I say this, because it's nothing to do with them.
I do have a PS3, but they can GTFO for their terrible attitude towards their customers.
Oh, and on topic, no, I'm not fed up with is. I'm finding Sony's PSN situation very amusing, and the fact
that they are being sued by SO many people. ![]()
Before anyone blames Anonymous, they deny it, and I believe them, they stopped DDOSing Sony's
services because it was affecting people playing on PSN. They're on our side.
Most people suspect an annoyed Sony worker at the moment. They fired over 200 people from their
online services section.

Re: PSN
I don't have a PS3 so I don't really care about the downtime, but I've heard that Anonymous actually got access to the credit card numbers and personal information of the customers, which would be bad for my brother who does have a PS3 and a lot of my friends. Sounds like they shut it down for their customers' safety because of what anon was doing, so I can't really blame them for shutting it down....
Let's look at it this way, all of you're credit card information, FB password, netflix password, etc. is all on PSN (did I mention credit card?) if there was a security hole in the PSN that allowed these "intruders" to access all of your passwords and run rampid with all of your personal information and life savings because Sony didn't shut down PSN as a courtesy to you and your otherwise meaningless life?
Every machine will break down no matter how well oiled and maintained it may be, one day everything breaks. Not to mention the day YOU become an innovator of technology and host your own gaming network for 70+ million users and it is flawless then, and only then can you judge Sony and their "inability" to create "quality" products.
And anyway, why should anyone trust Anonymous when they say it's not their fault? As much as they'd like to think they are, they are not a single entity, so one or even hundreds of people can't speak for everyone who considers themselves part of the group. Some anons could still be doing it and whoever said they weren't just didn't know about it. Or they could just be lying.

Never heard such BS in my life, Sony took away a feature we payed for, they LEGALLY got it back for us, and got sued for it. NONE of the devs who made piracy possbile got sued. What Sony did was illegal, that's why people hate them, and they're getting sued left right and centre.
Again, I don't think it was Anonymous, they had no reason to, just because someone uses them as a scapegoat, doesn't mean it's their fault.
Be back in a couple days.

The attackers were Anonymous. They did the original attack and a group of them are still attacking, despite the requests from most of Anonymous to stop. However, Anonymous is exactly the same as its name says it is, even to itself.
A hacker is someone to uses a program in a way that it was not meant to be used.

These guys shouldn't be called hackers. They're mostly script kiddies and a few crackers at most.
True hackers don't use hacks for malicious behavior, and they certainly don't use other people's hacks or tutorials. Anonymous calls themselves hackers because they want to make themselves look and feel like they are doing good. While I agree with a lot of things they do, such as the attack on China's firewall and Libya, they are clueless on many things they do. They believe in freedom of speech, yet they constantly bombard others who speak out against them. They also can't think outside their ring, such as this situation. The original Sony attacks were in retaliation against Sony suing Geohot for hacking the PS3. Most people were unaffected by this, due to not hacking. However, many people from Anonymous used Geohot's hack, so they were angry.
Anonymous attacked Sony saying it was for the good of every PS3 owner, however they have no skill when it comes to sociological problems, so they forget to take into account how the average person would be affected.

.
YOU SHOULD LEARN WHAT A HACKER IS YOU IGNORANT LITTLE *bleep*
No Hacker is a cracker, who accesses a computer system by circumventing its security system therefore getting data or abusing the system.
Starting last week the PSN seemed to randomly go down, no reason was given and it was just assumed to be work on the network, after a day of being down Sony released info saying it's a internal error, and that it'll be back up shortly.
A few days later sony admitted that whatever was going on is a external problem, one caused by hackers or some malicious source, no data outside this was given with a assured "Well, nothing bad will come from this no worries"
on 4/24 Kotaku.com reports that there's a large chance of credit card information being taken, sony shamefully admits that they have no way of finding out at this time and is just "hoping for the best" strategy.
4/26 Sony reveals your home, phone, zip code, everything has been stolen, and whoever cracked it has access to literally everything. Only saying "be careful!" in response

Re: PSN
Some definitions for those that don't know:
Hacker - A person who uses computer science to analyze and use a program, fragment of a program, code, or other "applicative object" for a purpose it was not originally intended to do.
Cracker - A person who creates and uses tools based off of programs hackers use to maliciously break into another computer or system.
Script Kiddie - A person who uses tools and resources that hackers and crackers create to hack an applicative object or crack a system.
Console Noob - Someone who actually argues that one console is better than another due to their opinions attempting to be stated as factual. See above post for example.

Re: PSN
ontels: The feature was OtherOS - some people bought the PS3 simply for that function (though I'll admit not many), and it was illegal for Sony to remove it (in some countries at least).
Neotguy40: Other than the DDOSing (which they stopped) there's no proof that the attacks were anything to do with Anonymous, and many people think it was one of the Sony workers who got fired.
Jackson117: Calm down, I was just pointing out that people blame hackers when this is not their fault. Piracy wasn't even possible on geohot's custom firmware, and as I said, none of the devs making backup managers (enabling piracy) got sued. Neither has PSN being down got anything to do with the hackers.
This is ALL Sony's fault anyway.

Years ago I predicted that the PS3 would be the last generation of Sony consoles despite the success it had at the time. Now my unlikely prediction seems plausible. I have a bad feeling about Sony's results at E3.

Re: PSN
Seriously, I only say that because it's true. This thread isn't about Xbox vs. PS3.
I'd like to inform you that you ... are wrong.
This thread was created to discuss how terrible the PSN is. Well, it's actually
about the PSN's down-time, but I like to throw in the word "terrible."
[hr:601da8bdd4]
I agree with SapphireSheep on this one. I've studied a lot of different
perspectives about these two consoles, including their CPU, physical
durability, controller design, number of games and their "fun" level, other
hardware and software parts, Internet play reliability, amount of players
for Internet play, Kinect vs PS3 Move, etc.
I've seen it all.
In the end, the only bad thing about the Xbox 360 is that if you tilt the
console while a disk is spinning inside, the disk could get scratched. Even
with that, the Xbox 360 is, realistically, the better console.

Even if that was illegal (and I doubt it was) it was such a small thing that I'm sure nearly no one cares about. Not an excuse to rob Sony of there money and players around the world of there fun.
