Re: Osama is Dead (Not a joke)

You know, in the Qur'an, the line that says you get 72 virgins for martyrdom could also be translated as "72 white pearls". Imagine all the desperate people trying to hold down their ingratitude before their god.

Large groups of people on the street celebrating the death of a terrorist leader. Does anyone else think that sounds like a bit of a stupid thing to do? *Boom*

Not at all. We've done it before, we're doing it now, and we certainly will be doing it again in the future.

Re: Osama is Dead (Not a joke)

Around and around and around.... roll

Like I said, I know that. When did I ever deny that it was? When did I ever say anything other than "I don't like TheAmazingAtheist; he's not funny"? Did I ever say other people don't find him funny? No. Did I ever say you can't find him funny? No. So why do you insist on arguing about this? I'm in complete agreement with you that humor is subjective, just not in agreement that he is funny.

You're essentially trying to argue "in my opinion he is funny, but you're wrong about him not being funny because humor is subjective." See any problems with that? Subjectivity by definition allows for different opinions. If you are really trying to argue that humor is subjective and not that I should think he's funny, this should not be a problem to you and we should have reached an agreement long ago. Unless you don't understand the definition of the word "subjective."

Re: Osama is Dead (Not a joke)

That depends on how many points you can get by repeating a point that was never disputed in the first place and ignoring the other person's argument. tongue

Seriously though, this argument was pointless from the beginning, so let's move on from it now. *tries and fails to come up with something to say that's related to the topic*

Re: Osama is Dead (Not a joke)

I was afriad that at least one newspaper would mistakenly print Obama' name in place of Osama's.  That could have been bad...

Obama is actually a pretty good president. Better than Bush and Bill, for sure.
Also, you can't blame him. He got into office when America was, and still is, in a "crap-hole" and it's not easy to pull a country out of that.

Unless you meant Osama then just ignored this.

Anyway I don't think we should celibrate it no matter how bad the person was. at the end of the day a man was killed, no matter what crimes he did or how evil he was we should'nt be cheering.

I don't understand, you mean highlighting without a mouse? Everyone knows that! It's like using the tab button to get to the next form.

I'm guessing you meant something different, can you explain?

Re: Osama is Dead (Not a joke)

I agree that celebrating any death is tasteless/wrong/whatever you want to call it, but I do understand others' desire to celebrate this particular death, especially when people believe this will make a difference in the war on terror. So I'm neutral on that issue, I guess.

It's anti-conformist to have respect for other cogniscent beings? Huh, who knew.

I think there are two layers to Osama's death. There's the layer of a powerful terrorist leader being brought to justice, and there's the layer of losing another cogniscent being. I suppose it's acceptable to celebrate a death as long as you don't let it get too personal. Celebrate this symbolic move for the war on terror, but don't celebrate the loss of a person, if you wish to be tasteful.

Gosh, I'm being condescending. Condemning people morally for being tasteless.

I think you are right.  It's a very good thing he's gone, but Osama was a human with a wasted life like Hitler and Stalin, and that is kind of sad.  Forget what you said about being condescending.
