Not sure if I should close this because it's getting kind of spammy or leave it open because it's the best thread ever.

Dragons do not reproduce like humans do.  According to Spyro: Year of the Dragon, (released in the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Dragon) dragon eggs are delivered by fairies every 12 years during the Year of the Dragon.  That still applies in the LOS series, so I don't see any reason for dragons to be more than just best friends.

kinda makes the idea of Cynder pretty uselless. especially after yelling "i love you" at the end of Dawn of the Dragon...

and i don't see how that makes Cynder useless.

I suppose it would make her useless in the sense that she wouldn't be needed to increase the dragon population. The eggs would be delivered with or without Cynder. Maybe the baby dragons would need a mother, though? I don't know how dragon families would work in this game's world.

Speaking of which, why wouldn't they get married, anyway? It sounds weird to apply a human social construct to animals, sure, but they're pretty anthropomorphized. They basically act just like humans anyway. Who's to say they wouldn't have rituals like ours?

And now I feel kind of silly for thinking this much about it, lol. roll

I frequent this forum for this reason. You're all idiots. And I'm an idiot too. Let's rename it to "Idiotforum."

This is my all-time favorite Spyroforum topic I've ever come across. It's horrendously poor grammar has earned it the title of Spyroforum Meme.

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

Internet tourist guide: and here you see the spyro forum people as they discuss dragon marriage

I agree that people who love eachother don't HAVE to get married. I always wondered why it wasnt enough for two people to just BE together frankly, but i digress

You think ignitus would have gotten hitched? How many female dragons ARE there in the spyro universe?

i found myself thinking about it. of course, the first thought that cross my mind is 'and they hav nize babbies'.

the second thought is 'but how would the social structure of a dragon family work if theres no real bond between the kid and the mother'(serious face)

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

As much as i think dotd spyro and cynder are as bland as tasting plastic and have a not-interesting romance, it's obvious that dotd spyro and cynder aren't unhappy with one another, so you know what, mozel tov! At least they're not abusive with eachother or anything (other than cynder being snappy with him but to be fair, shes more snappy with sparx)

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

Here's my two cents.

If dragons have constructed mytho-idiosyncratic notions like that of worshiping their ancestors, I'm pretty sure they have other rituals as well. Throughout a dragon's life, I'm sure acquiring a mate would be of enough importance to make a rite of it. It's natural to all human cultures to make a ritual for an act that is that significant to the lives of those individuals as well as such two individuals' communities. (and of course, I am working under the assumption that all sentient beings are human-like).

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

Well, in my opinion, I do think they have human like traits. Literary theory states that all works of art are influenced by the human element regardless of how fantastic they are.By nature, it is really hard of thinking of a culture that is not human, and you have to add the fact that most human creations honor humanity by imitating some of its traits.

Take the dragons' veneration of their ancestors for example. In my opinion, there isn't a more human trait they could have given them. The amount of human cultures that worship their ancestors is paramount. Add to that thing like saviortism and their/our concept of love and you have characters that are pretty well anthropomorphed.

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

I could see some sort of rite being used as a way to consolidate mateship. Perhaps it's not the cliche "wear the white gown and walk down the isle" type of wedding, but there's a possibility that they could have a ceremony of their own that suits their culture.

I also assume that each species, and each cultural group within that species has their own set of different ways of doing it.

There are 4 types of people in this world.

1. Those who can think very deeply into the subject and can count.
2. Those who can think very deeply into the subject and can't count.
4. Those who just think 'WTF?"

things are a little confusing right now because i'm talking about dragons in general, while Shade is talking about dragons in the Spyro franchise specifically. the two opposing views could be a little confusing.

the thread made complete sense before that, don't worry.

Yup, mainly when it gets really philosophical.

Speaking of which, do you know of any sentient dragon culture that isn't somewhat similar to human culture?

Re: Is spyro and cynder Get Merry ?

Yeah, I thought about those dragons too, but the problem about them is that they cease to represent living creatures, and end up being more like pure incarnations of evil. Their symbolic value becomes more than their personality.
