Re: Avatar 2
Chrome OS does exist and is most defiantly not vapourware. There just hasn't been an official RTM for systems yet as its still in early beta. http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ People have been pumping out custom builds built off google's source tree.

I mean the release. They haven't updated the beta for a long time. I've been running it in Parallels, but it just feels like they've cancelled it.

Re: Avatar 2
Actually my mistake, not beta, early Alpha.

Apparently they are working closely with netbook manufacturers to get it to market, who knows as of now though. You can't call it vapourware if it exists though.
Anyways, ive steered this topic off the giant *bleep*ing match between a guy, you and stormy for long enough.

Re: Avatar 2
Simple, you can't back up an opinion like a fact. Just because you feel something, doesn't mean that you should be defending how you feel from other people, because they can't change your opinion. It's like trying to protect a princess in an unbreakable castle. Since the castle is unbreakable, you don't need to worry about it, but you still send troops out. Don't try to back your opinion with facts, because opinions can't fight.
I feel that it's kind of pointless for me to state an opinion if I have no reasons behind it. It's not that I was trying to prove that everyone should see it the way I did; I just wanted to point out why I feel the way I do instead of just saying, "I thought it was overrated. The end."

Actually I was talking about how A Guy was backing his opinion with box office sales :-P

Oh. Got it. ![]()
Technically it was Cameron's opinion he was trying to prove, though.

Re: Avatar 2
Edit: Also, I found this while searching: http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
Avatar's 12th place if you adjust for inflation.
Movie prices are one of the many things that go up slower than the rate of inflation, much like computer prices and the prices of snacks, although that doesn't invalidate your find.
Anyways, I wasn't using facts to justify my opinion (seriously, why does everyone keep misinterpreting things?) I was using facts to say that you can in fact truthfully, objectively call Avatar the "best" movie.

I know you are saying that you can "Objectively call Avatar the best", but there is no such thing as an objective opinion, for that would be a contradiction. You CAN however say that it has the best income, but calling something the "best" would be too vague and would generally be an opinion.

I know. Good thing I wasn't talking about an opinion.
It was best, if you consider the purpose of a movie - to make money.

Anyways, in my perspective, there is no such thing as "the best movie."
There is only one's favorite movie, no matter what the plot is, no matter
who the actor was, no matter how many people watched it, etc.
Either you like it or you don't, and you have your own separate reasons
why. Sure, you can judge a movie by how it was made physically, such as
graphics, but everyone has their own interests in types of movies.

Re: Avatar 2
Well if the first one took 5 years to make... then won't it be another 5 years?
unless they started making the sequel before?

Re: Avatar 2
Movie wasn't a breakthrough or anything...it was an old fashion story that was simply done pretty well...I enjoyed it.....as for the future they're going to do the same thing that any box office hit would do...make a franchise out of it and beat it like a dead horse until they see fit to stop. (looking right at you Shrek)

Re: Avatar 2
RDX
What you're saying is true, but remember that all of the Avatar movies
were planned at nearly the same time. They will most likely not "push the
movie's luck until it's as dry as a raisin," like what happened to Shrek.

Re: Avatar 2
I wasn't aware that Avatar was planned as a series from the beginning... I don't see where they can go with it other than the cliche "revenge of the evil dudes" route. But then again, I agree with Stormy and Rurik that the first was already entirely cliche, so I wouldn't be surprised if the entire series has the same "cookie-cutter" plot.
