Re: A Different Direction

Activision owns Spyro, so they'll probably have one of their studios develop the game. But still, Activision could cancel the project in its tracks.

Re: A Different Direction

I'm really curious to see what they do now. Especially as it's just been confirmed that a Crash game has also been cancelled - Like the Spyro movie - with no announcement.

.....Actually, I wouldn't mind another Crash/Spyro game on a main console though, and focused on actual gameplay rather than minigames.

Re: A Different Direction

Well, what we're going off is the email Aura24 received and quoted in the first post. They're saying the movie is cancelled because the gaming company wants to take the series "in a different direction," implying that they're in the process of making a game different from TLoS.

Re: A Different Direction

Man! Waht do you mean by "dofferent from TLoS." exactly?

Re: A Different Direction

Well, since Activision is making the series move in a different direction, it could be possible that it may be another reboot. I'm hoping it will continue in the LoS universe, away from the epic feel of the previous trilogy.

No one really knows yet. All we're doing here is speculating.

Believe me, Insomniac couldn't hold a matchstick to Blizzard.

I-see-what-you-did-there.jpg

But yes, it is true.

Maybe this was a good thing? I mean, now that Activision owns the rights to the game, we might get a more... Popular idea of what it is.

Although it could be that Blizzard isn't going to develop it.

Re: A Different Direction

Well if they make it more child friendly then it's not really a "new" direction, it's still the same direction, but they're going in a little deeper

Yes it can, there are plenty of ways to take O.G. Spyro into a new direction.

You just need to have a good imagination. wink

A 'true sandbox' isn't where you can do whatever you want. It's a non-linear game with no true objectives or need to do something.

True sandbox is, Game sandbox is something like you said..GTA, Not really sticking to the missions or objectives

I have actually thought about this.

I highly doubt Activision or Blizzard or whoever would EVER do this; its a huge risk.

But imagine a Spyro game that allows players to experience the game the way they want.  If a game producer really wanted to give fans what they wanted with such a large aray of direction, this is exactly why they would make a sandbox Spyro game.

For example:
I could see a game like this pre-existing in yet another new realm created for the dragon kingdom.  There is a storyline, but that is dealt with later.  Players would start the game being allowed to (holds breathe for a minute) create their own dragon.  Customizable from snout to tailtip.  Not like Spore, a game that revolves around creating endless creature possibilities but limits it to dragons that are Spyro-like and Cynder-like.  And along with an inevitable but optional storyline, players could explore worlds, collect items, and (yes) even interact with other players.  Maybe the social networking in video games is an old fad, but I think it depends on the creativity; Spyro can get there!

This extreme yet basic changes in the Spyro franchise would unfortunately imply one thing: Time lapse (Spyro gets older)

The only way I see this working in the storyline is if time and age takes affect and Spyro becomes a fully grown adult.  It would make a "Dragon School" or some other leveling up process in the game the main idea surrounding the customization.  WoW and Spyro may sound like a horrible mix, but I think it would be awesome with all the right pieces.

I know what you're thinking.  "Then it isn't a Spyro game if you're creating your own character!"
Well, it is.  Try not to think of your customized dragon as stealing the show.  Instead imagine being able to create a cast of characters that run along side Spyro, either in a co-op, battle mini-game, you name it.

Even though it will undoubtly never happen, wouldn't this be kinda awesome?!?  It would make game infinitely replayable.
