Re: General Discussion 5
So, Apple just gave me a reason to loathe them. I never liked them before, but this just takes the *bleep*ing cake.
I had an SD card that I stored all my files on. I plugged it into someone else's Mac to get a file from him. Apparently this was a huge mistake. The *bleep* thing put this *bleep* on my SD card, wiping most of the files I actually needed, without my knowledge. Now 99% of the files I needed on that SD card, programs, pictures, everything, are all gone.
*bleep* you, Apple. *bleep* you.

If you haven't already reformatted or deleted the .trashes file, you can still retrieve the files that you've lost. The .Trashes file contains all files that are deleted on a drive. If you plug your drive into a Unix or XNU computer, you can check your missing files with this command:
ls -a .TrashesThat should list all the files that were deleted. At that point, you can just use the cp command on each to copy them out.

Re: General Discussion 5
There's no difference between doing that and just viewing the files in an explorer window in Windows, is there? Because that's what I did, and only some of the missing files were in there. I even tried a file recovery program, which found about 5 of the lost pictures, but not the story I'd spent hours writing or my old programs.
So I figured it was pretty hopeless. But something was weird: even after I deleted all the Mac *bleep*, including the hidden folders, something was still taking up 700MB on that SD card, so I just reformatted it. I wonder if that was, somehow, my files, and I just couldn't see them for some reason. Crap.

Re: General Discussion 5
Wow, that sucks terribly. ![]()
I learned the hard way to back up my files. I spent two years on a mod for
my Battlefield game and my computer got stolen. The only backup I found
was an old version of my mod that a friend had. So I pretty much rebuilt what
I did, and learned to back up my files. Lucky for me, my dad got me a 500 GB
external hard drive for backup purposes. I thank God for that.
Now it's been 4 years since I began my mod, and I back it up when I can.

Re: General Discussion 5
Obviously you meant it was so stupid that it would only happen in America; there was no need to give me a definition for that.
What was asking was why do you think this is exclusively a "stupid American" thing? This could happen pretty much anywhere, especially in countries that are more "traditional" than America.

Re: General Discussion 5
The term "Only in America" seems to be used to replace any insult against fat people, idiots, or in this case, religion. But we can't say "Only with Fat people", "Only with Idiots", or "Only in religion". That would just be plain wrong.

Re: General Discussion 5
Why would that be wrong? That actually seems like it would be more correct.
...I just realized as I was typing this that I'm spending way too much time talking about a topic that doesn't even matter, so I'm going to drop this now. XD

Because, for some odd reason, if you point out a flaw in someone's way of life, whether it's education, beliefs, or culture, then that makes you a bigot.

Re: General Discussion 5
I don't think Clock-la was saying you're the bad egg; she was just saying that the couple "bad" (of course "bad" being completely up for interpretation) people out there ruin it for the rest of us.
I know what you mean though. I mean, if you look at the human race as a whole it's always been that way, what with wars, religious conflicts, etc, etc...but there's always some good, you just have to look pretty hard for it sometimes, which is unfortunate. It helps if you don't let it bother you. If everyone let it get to them and just joined the crowd, there wouldn't be any good people left.

Re: General Discussion 5
I think you guys look at the wrong places.
I look at my church and it's full of people who love each other as family and
who care about people and the world we live in. And if you have problems
with anything, there's always someone there who can truly help you.

Re: General Discussion 5
That's why I said "sometimes". Church's are great examples, although not everybody has a church to turn to, not to mention some can be pretty questionable sometimes. I also should have mentioned that I definitely don't hate humanity at all. My response was dealing with why you can't denounce all humans just because of our faults.
