Even "unfortunate really" seems like an understatement...it's catastrophic. Really feel bad for those people.
On another note, the Olympic torch passed by my city earlier today, on its way towards the final destination of Vancouver for the winter Olympics.

Re: General Discussion 5
At home, of course.
If you thought I was going to go there, that would cost an arm and a leg for tickets just to see even one event. I'd also have to figure out how to get around midterms if I tried to do this.

Re: General Discussion 5
Yeah, that's very true. This week is my exam week. You see, there's one
positive side of the exam week ... half days all week.
Have you already done mid-term exams, or are they coming up soon?

Re: General Discussion 5
They're always around mid February during this semester. Some are before the week-long break during that month, some afterwards.
Also, there are probably just about no tickets left anyways; they're all sold out long ago last year. Unless you try to hunt for one on ebay for an exorbitant price or something like that.

Re: General Discussion 5
lol.. We are done with mid-terms now.. glad for it too.
Yeah, you could always.. well you know... Kill for them... I wouldn't advise that though.
also on this subject: How does NBC lose money on this?

Re: General Discussion 5
lol Losing money is what NBC does. Look at the whole Jay+Conan fiasco that just happened. Yay NBC! You just gave a dude millions of dollars to LEAVE your network... Whooo!
Haha I think the Olympics are just a money loser in general though. The Olympic Comitee makes money, but the city hosting spends so much on setting up and showing off that they end up in the hole, and the TV Networks can apparently lose money on it too... XD
Also, exams are this week in most schools here(Just saying... XD). Second semester starts like right at the start of February.

Quite the opposite, when you think long term. Any place lucky enough to host the Olympics would almost certainly get a large economic boost - maybe not in the short term, but it's definitely a good thing in the end.

Haha maybe in other countries, but not in Canada. I'm pretty sure the Montreal Olympics cost more than they earned, and it looks like Vancouver's on the same path, or so I'm told by people in BC... XD

Re: General Discussion 5
It's pretty hard to quantify total earnings due to an Olympic event, especially if it stretches out for a long period of time.
Actually, I think I know what you're talking about. I did hear that immediately after the Olympics, there is some sort of money slump, but I think tourism and stronger ties to countries will be the main contributing factors to actual earnings.

Re: General Discussion 5
It's probably very complicated, and a job for a few economists. But at a guess, while the games are a short term loss, the olympic prescence beams your city across the world. For instance, Montreal (is that the name of the city?) will now be put onto the map, and lodge itself in people's minds. The Summer Olympics are probably much better, since I think they get a bigger viewing rate.
And to supplement that, the new buildings (presuming there were any) will promote the sports industry, producing a larger sportsperson income, giving the country in question a more, how should I put it, successful sports existence, let's say that. And that's always a good thing. Over here in England, the football industry is probably valued approaching several billion.
But, of course, statistics beat theory, and there must be some reason that governments spend millions upon millions hosting a sports event.

Re: General Discussion 5
Yeah, puplicity is why they do it... I'd think the Winter Olimpics would get more viewership because people don't have as much to do in the US, UK, Russia, ect...
Also I just heard some idiot say that Moto GP (motercycle racing for those who don't know) is bigger than Amarican Football, NASCAR and Soccer world wide combined... WFT? I understand NASCAr and American Football because they are American sports.. but Soccer is undoubtably bigger than Moto GP just about every where.. am I wrong? America even holds Soccer higher...lol

Re: General Discussion 5
Um, yes. I wasn't even 100% sure what Moto GP is. Football is possibly the largest sport in the world, I reckon. But I'm sure there are some good arguments for some of the other sports?
Has anyone managed to get their mits on MAG? I'm playing as SVER, and within three matches, I'm getting more kills than deaths consistently. That said, SVER seems to be attracting the most newbies (I despise the term "noobs"), and I've heard Valor and Raven are struggling to have any matches together.

I'm losing my hearing in my right ear. It's started since yesterday, and all I can hear in my right ear is a constant beeping sound now. I'm going to the doctor later.

even possible. Well, I hope all goes well for you. I'll be praying.

Re: General Discussion 5
That sucks....royally. I'll prolly loose all my hearing around the age of 40 thanks to how loud I play my music...anyways as for the sports I suppose it depends on where in the world you go. Obviously domestically in America you can push hard for American Football being the most popular..and it's also growing in popularity overseas. Worldwide I'd say that Soccer takes in the most viewership...but I don't look at statistics.
