Re: Nightwish fans

Yep, I fancied a change.  wink And yes it is Oceanborn. Told you I'd get a NW avatar!  big_smile

And the trainer card in my sig has a web address at the bottom. Just Google it if you wanna make one.

Anyway, I think I might download NW's cover of High Hopes off iTunes. It's live and brilliant, Marco sings it. I love his voice. I like how he can yell his head off in one song and sing really nicely and gently in another.

Re: Nightwish fans

I've just made a card too! Lol, I saw Blade's one, so I decided to make one myself too. Dunno if it stays for long, my banner was nice too. (@Rykan: www.pokecharms.com/trainercards)

I am looking for more Nightwish, but why does the singer of the group not sing opera anymore? I quite liked it, it fitted well with metal.

Re: Nightwish fans

Marco's voice is indeed beautiful! he can yell and use a soft voice as well, you're right! he's a good singer! yep, is a pity that Tarja has changed style... it fitted metal, MrX-Link! High Hopes is beautiful! but it hasn't been released in a cd... I cannot find it in my country... hmm

Re: Nightwish fans

High Hopes was on their greatest hits album, Highest Hopes. I haven't got that simply because all the songs on there (except HH) are on albums I have.  But I am gonna download it, I think it's beautiful.

As for Tarja, I have a feeling she changed her singing style because Marco turned up on the scene. Perhaps Tuomas felt it fitted better when they did duets. That's the feeling I get anyway. And I love both versions of her voice very much. And she must prefer her new voice because she kept it on her solo album.

Re: Nightwish fans

Now I want you , Saphira, to think about some nice activities, posting, something about Nightwish to revive this thread... 'cause I'm without any ideas... I thought to write something on the mythological style that is present in many of their songs.... starting from Elvenpath... analyzing the texts, searching references to their magical mythology... while I'm doing this research that might take some time, try to invent something!! :-P  soon, I'll post new infos about the topic I said... don't worry!! :-P just give me few days, ok?? I'll do my best!! :-P

Re: Nightwish fans

Elvenpath? Hmm... I love that one. Let me see...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFSJAfkF03I

It's got tons of Lord of the Rings references, since Tuomas is interested in that kind of stuff.

Wanderlust and Fantasmic have Disney references, especially Fantasmic, which is Tuomas' own tribute to Walt Disney himself. Wishmaster, again, has references of LotR and also Dragonlance.

Oh I almost forgot, Beauty and the Beast as the title suggests, is based on the film. And also The Kinslayer has a line from Shakespeare's The Tempest: "Good wombs hath borne bad sons."

Phew... is that enough? I can't think of any more.  big_smile

Oh and good luck Rykan.

Re: Nightwish fans

Heh, thanks. Good luck with your homework.

I forgot: Gethsemane is about the story in the Bible about Jesus in the garden (Swaffy would like this song).

Creek Mary's Blood is about the native Americans and in The Return to the Sea, there is a reference to Disney's The Fox and the Hound and also Charles Darwin is mentioned.

Re: Nightwish fans

^ Oh yes I love it! It gives me hope and the last chorus is so great it always puts a smile on my face.

It doesn't have to be metal to be loved. Angels Fall First, Swanheart, Sleeping Sun and several others aren't metal. They're beautiful ballads.

Re: Nightwish fans

I was thinking I ought to point out their covers:

Walking in the Air (Howard Blake) - Oceanborn.
Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore) - E.P of the same title.
Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber) - Century Child
High Hopes (Pink Floyd) - Highest Hopes (their greatest hits album)

Can someone correct me if I missed one?

And also, here are the albums, in order:

Hidden text

806_AFF_cover_1.jpg
^ Angels Fall First

806_Oceanborn_Cover_2.jpg
^ Oceanborn (my favourite cover)

806_Wishmaster_2.jpg
^ Wishmaster

806_OTHAFA_cover_1.jpg
^ Over the Hills and Far Away

806_Century_Child_2.jpg
^ Century Child (other favourite cover)

^ Once (last one with Tarja)

806_Highest_Hopes_cover_1.jpg
^ Highest Hopes (greatest hits album)

806_DPP_2.jpg

Re: Nightwish fans

ok, I'm here again!! I have to say after a lot of afternoons spend searching the meanings of Tuomas' songs... what Saphira told was much of what is known... the details are known only by Tuomas itself (or maybe by Tarja too), so there's not so much I can add... the thing I can say is that Tuomas is very fond of fantasy in general... and that some songs are very moving... he can create what I called "energetic" (strong drums and guitars) songs as well as "emotioning" songs... for example, I find very moving "his" song, Dead Boy's Poem... but it's a bit energetic too! or sleeping sun! that's a moving song! there are many others.... but whatever song maybe be, there are little few that aren't great! Even  Poet and the Pendulum of Dark Passion Play is about him... dunno why he sees himself that way... :-P

Re: Nightwish fans

^ He's not. I think he's speaking about himself metaphorically. Like in Dead Boy's Poem. Lots of NW songs are personal to him. Ocean Soul is never performed live because it's too personal.
