Re: MORONS

I like space.

FUN FACTS:

Mercury is roughly the size of one of Jupiter's moons - Callisto.

Venus takes longer to spin on its axis (243 earth days) than it does to orbit the Sun (224 earth days).

Earth was once believed wrongly to have two moons.

Mars is home to the biggest found volcano in the Solar System, Olympus Mons, which is around 17 miles in height and 37 miles wide. It is nearly three times as big as Mount Everest.

Jupiter, the largest planet - and heavier than all the others combined - has an enormous storm upon it called the Great Red Spot. It is so big it could hold two Earths side by side and has raged for over 300 years. It has lasted so long because Jupiter has no solid surface to weaken the energy of the storm.

Saturn is, though the second largest planet in the Solar System, the lightest planet. It is so light, in fact, that if you could drop it in water it would float.

Uranus is tilted on its side as it orbits the Sun, so one side of the planet has to endure a 42-year Winter in its 84-year orbit. It's moons look like they are orbiting its poles, though they are really orbiting its equator.

Neptune should be a cold and still world as it is so far from the Sun, yet it has changing weather patterns driven by emitting heat from within the planet. It is known for its storms, as it is home to the fastest recorded winds in the Solar System - 1,250mph!

Pluto (I know it's not a planet but oh well) has three natural satallites (moons), Charon, which is about half the size of Pluto, therefore unusually big, Nix and Hydra. Nix and Hydra are often forgotten about, and many say Pluto has just one moon. This is untrue!

And another interesting fact is that people are searching for new planets, but if there are some out there then they are too far away for us to see. However, as a planet orbits a star it tugs at the star's gravity and makes it wobble - and astronomers can notice this. And so 25 wobbling stars have been found - this means, hopefully, 25 unseen planets.

I actually know all those facts - and more - by heart.
