I reckon that the dark gems are both similar because in my opinion, AHT is a prototype for DOTD.

If you peel away at DOTD you can see elements of past spyro games in the game itself e.g:

Climbing: First seen in Spyro 2
Fly at any time (only in 1 level): Spyro 1
Dark gems: Spyro: A Heros Tail
Hunter: First seen in Spyro 2
Earth Ball: sort of similar to the ball gadget in Spyro: AHT

You mean the same developers? No. AHT was Vivendi (or something like that) and DotD was Etranges Lib-blegh-blegh. o_O

To be honest im actually quite pleased they did it, sure in some respects it shows that they are lazy, but if you think about it they are paying tribute to the 10 years Spyro has been around, which to be honest was the best thing they did to that game, cause thats how it seems to me.

I have noticed that to. Maybe they were just like "hey lets bring this back just to tease them but lets add a feature to it" And of course that it the taking of your mana. which is really annoying

You cant beat Jackon's random comments , anyway i wouldnt be surprised they went back to older gmes for ideas for 2 reasons.
1. they were probaly running out ideas
2. its the spyro game which was released on Spyro's 10th anniversery so they would go back to grab ideas from it to relate back, e.g these dark gems, being able to climb on walls and also hunter returning.

The dark gems were pretty similar... But for the aHT dark gems, they cut out all other background music, while the DotD dark gems didn't.

Before I figured out that those dark stones made that noise, I always
thought that a horrible enemy was nearby, and I got some feeling that
