To me if you keep reusing the same old villains I just see it as lazy. Is it ok to have a villain for three games then missing him for two before bringing him back again? Sure, but not continuously. That is just lazy to me.

Now, you know what this means, if indeed I remembered correctly.
Inevitably, if Spyro continues stagnating long enough as a series,

  Since they've gone through all the other cliches, they're probably going to go straight into that one if they go about long enough.

For the moment, however, I find it more likely that there will be some disgruntled servant or a sort of ancient cosmic evil that of course will be smote.

But if Malefor does come back, I hope that they'll go for the route where he's smarter for his imprisonment rather than insane by his own standards.  Really, he was rather unintelligent in several bits in the LoS trilogy.

I think it is highly unlikley that they will bring The Dark Master back or any Apes. They will proboly make some new leader and minions or a new leader and grublets or whatever those little things from DotD are. Like Reddragonx and Cornys said, It will get really cheesy if they return with The Dark Master

Or maybe bring Ripto back... just a bit more badass in terms of combat ability, but still his comedic failing self.

Or even the Sorcerous, except make her dangerous enough so it's not simply dodging ISGM's and Fireballs, then turning her into gnorc bait with cannons/tanks/flying saucers (don't even wanna know where Agent 9 or Bianca got 'em), though still, some more platforming would be nice. I'd personally like to see the new Hunter getting caught in the romance net with Bianca (and it'd be a lot more intresting, as chances are the two would have more seriousness)

And yes I would tend to believe that the 'spirits' that killed Malefor locked away his soul. Sent him to the place where it's always hot and this site has a cencor for it's name.
