It makes me wonder if they'll keep EL's design in the next Spyro game, or go back to Krome Studios. We won't know until before or after the release of the Spyro Movie.

Even if the game would go back to Krome Studios, they wouldn't change the design for Spyro and Cynder back to what it first was because it would be weird, if Spyro and Cynder had a much more 'grown up' and more 'advanced and detailed' look in the last game, and then suddenly go back to their previous look. Their looks will only change over time, not change back cuz that'd be really weird

Even though Spyro and Cynder have more mature appearances in DOTD, they still seem to be no larger then they were in TEN, they are older and more mature looking, yet have the same size as in TEN, which can lead us to believe that they actually only underwent a change in design and not in age.

And, if you look closely, you can see that the difference in size between the guardians and Spyro/Cynder is larger in DOTD then in TEN, so in DOTD Spyro and Cynder appear to be smaller in comparison to the guardians, than they are in TEN and ANB

As for Malefor:

In Malefor's time, the Dragon Elders managed to perform a ritual which trapped Malefor in the Underworld (the Well of Souls is merely a pit, located in the Mountain of Malefor, which contains a portal between the Underworld and the real world). But, in the realm of Convexity, where Spyro faces Cynder at the end of ANB, such a portal between the Underworld and real world can also be found. So, a portal between the Underworld and the Real world is located in the Mountain of Malefor as well as in the realm of Convexity (as seen in ANB), so Malefor could either be freed through the portal located in the realm of Convexity or through the portal in the Mountain of Malefor. After Cynder ultimately failed to set Malefor free using the portal in the Convexity realm, Gaul took over and tried to do it through the portal in the Mountain of Malefor.

in ANB Malefor (aka the dark master) was trapped in CONVEXITY, in a PRISON wanted to be freed and cynder could do it.
then
in TEN Malefor created the Mountain of Malefor and then was trapped inside THAT and the CELESTIAL MOONS had to free him
then
in DOTD Malefor sed that Spyro freed him from the well of souls... and cynder tricked him to doing that... im completeley lost now... what was my point?

Actually, he wasn't trapped in the Well of Souls. But the Well of Souls formed a portal for him to cross from Convexity into the real world on the Night of Eternal Darkness. As for in DotD... he was just BSing Spyro and Cynder to try and turn them against each other. He's just that kind of dragon.
On topic, yeah, lots of plot holes. I understand how they could grow up (someone explained to me about cryogenics and how it would work) but I don't get where the jewelry came from. I guess the animators didn't care and just said, "Okay, it looks cool, just keep it."
... I don't know. I think they were just in a rush to finish the game and so didn't think things through.

good point. convexity was like his soul was trapped once he was free the celestial moons started to count down...somthing no one could stop.

Therefor the theory of convexaty freeing him works, becauseno one could stop the celistial eclips.

the whole crap about spyro was just BS IMO i prefer to keep DOTD out of my mind with its sloppy "lets f*** the last 2 games up with this one."

There a few plotholes in DotD, made by the change of game developers. First, how did Spyro and Cynder grow up inside the Time Crystal, when they were still young at the end of TEN when Hunter of Avalar found them? Since they were frozen in time, they can't grow into teenagers. Which probably explains that they haven't aged or grew up a bit in height as the Guardians were still taller than them. They can still free-fly, even if they are young.

Second, how did Cynder get her iron jewelry back on?? They weren't on her in TEN and after she was frozen in time with Spyro at the end of the game. I know, they were suppose to help Cynder face her fears of being Malefor's pawn, but there's got to be a better reason.

I say it would've been better if EL kept the TEN design of Spyro and Cynder, instead of just making them teens. It would make much more sense if they made them teens in the next Spyro game.

A few lawl. the whole game was a plot hole.
