The temperatures where I live have been swinging wildly. Two days ago, the overnight temperature was -29C (ouch for March x.x) but within a 24 hour period, the temperature jumped 32 degrees up to 3C for most of the afternoon yesterday. And it will be warmer tomorrow. (mushy mud on my white khakis, nooooo.....)

A lot of new drivers go off the road at least once before they learn that it's not a good thing to hit the brakes when you drive in snow/ice. You have to really glide the car over ice when you lose traction rather then slam the breaks and go sliding.

Then it's just a matter of how well you handle quick thinking if your car already isn't flipped or twisted around.
