Still think they should have used the dark forms a bit more.

And I was scared out of my knickers when he showed up! It was unexpected, but seemed really anticlimactic because he only turned dark for a few seconds. They needed to drag out that cut scene a little more and build some more tension.

So...this means that whenever Spyro is expressing strong emotions, like not accepting Ignitus death, he turns to Dark Spyro...but that's my opinion or something like that.
