well I know in GTA there's an invisible tether. Though it's not in the story/plot.

besides flight, i thought the link was one of the best elements of gameplay this time around. i'm don't know a lot of different games, but this seemed fairly original to me. i'd imagine with as many years as games have been around though, this isn't. any examples of other games like this?

The snakes disappear shortly after they're put on the dragons, but they don't fall off. They're still there, just invisible, and when the dragons get too far apart, you can clearly see the chain still binding them.

So if I make this clear,

You'll stay together, until you beat some bad guys, or defeat a catacomb, but you'll still see the elastic beam between spyro and Cynder if they're to far away from eachother.
But, If you beat Malefor, you can go where ever you want?

Yeah, but a little more annoying to lose each other if you are playing through the game with someone else. (I'm planning to do that.) I remember the good ol' days of co-playing, with Sonic and Tails, and the fact that I can actually brag about beating Battletoads because someone was playing with me.

Until Malefor is defeated even if it's not seen those necklaces are going to be there until Malefor is defeated.

Here's something to clear up:

Spyro and Cynder are stuck together until the end of the game. The snakes go away sometime after the catacombs level, but the bond is still there. You only see the bond when you start to get too far away from each other.

You'll see some stages with Spyro & Cynder without their elastic neck collars!
even on some screenshots you don't see them.

Look what I found on Wikipedia about this:
"The Prologue level is where Spyro and Cynder are wearing two green glowing snakes on their necks and it will attach to each other to be stuck together at all times and they have to defeat a certain amount of foes before they are set free."

Wkipedia can say anyting.....so I'm not sure...
But if it's true, than it would awesome!!!
because it gives you a more free-like feeling of free-flight.
