*surrounded by four of his most trusted personal guards, King Arda inspects the added sentries posted along the palace's outer perimeter; at the ground level entrances and the narrow catwalks up high along the castle wall.*

*at the edge of the forest, along the palace's nothern edge, two concealed figures, lie in wait, in the trees above.*

Dark: "Ahh! Darn it! These stupid oak branches keep stabbing me in the back and poking my wings!"

Midnight: *glaring at him eye-to-eye, Midnight grabs his brother by the scruff of his neck, clenching his taloned claws tightly around his neck*

"Dark, if you don't keep your flipping mouth shut and blow our cover...then I'm going to make sure that your won't have to breath to speak, ever again. Got it!"

Dark: *tugging at his brother's claws, the younger dragon chokes quietly and nods in agreement*

Midnight: *releasing his grip, he bruskly pushes his sibling away and back into the trunk of the oak tree which they are hiding in* "Good. I wouldn't want to think that you were interferring or disrupting my plan...'cuz I would not like that, in the least."

Arda: *rises up from his throne and hugs the Queen* "Cressida, stay here and watch over our daughters. I want to personally oversee the improvements which must be completed before day's end."

*addressing his throne-room guards* "Watch over the Queen and Princesses...I shall return within this very hour."

*the King walks swiftly, along with several personal guards, to the observe and evaluate the added guards to the outer wings and corridors of the palace*

Arda: *addressing Sinikka* "Well, my Dear...I think that I'm going to start fortifying our palace defenses, with extra guards and sentries...beginning tonight. The royal astronomer has notified me that tonight will be rather dark and gloomy because of the new moon and I don't want anyone or anything getting into this castle that doesn't belong."

*Arda hugs her lovingly* "You are much too precious to me."

*As sun begins to set across the kingdom, twilight slowly creeps in from across the wooded countryside. At the very northern edge of the forest, two shadowy and steathly figures hold camp, waiting for night to fall.*

Dark: "I don't want to hear the plan anymore, Midnight! We've went over it enough, Brother. Please...I promise, I know it by heart! I really do!"

Midnight: "You what?!" *the black dragon smacks the two large drawstring canvas bags from his sibling's claws, knocking them to the ground, he glares at him* "I'll tell you when I'm finished going over my plan! So...shut up and sit still!" *laughs wickedly* You're going to know my plan so well...that you'll be able to carry it out in your sleep...or in total darkness!"

Arda: *to Cressida* I think I'd be a good idea to post a few more sentries at the northern end of the palace. The forest is especially close there and I wouldn't want any surprises. The temptation to invade may be just too tempting.

Dark: Well, brother...when do you think it'd the best time to carry out your plan?

Midnight: Tonight, of course! *glares at his brother* That's what I've only been telling you for the past week, now! I've consulted this month's astronomic charts and tonight will be a new moon...which means no moon. It should be as black as soot, tonight; the perfect opportunity to sneak into the Palace.

Dark: And capture the princesses! *growls*

Midnight: Enough! *smacks him upside the head with his claw* Keep your mind on my plan and the "real" goal...limitless riches. *he grins, flicking his wings and folding them back* But...if we do have the opportunity and time to "make acquaintances* with those innocent hostages...then so be it.
