I think the best thing to do, instead of euthanizing animals because of their breed, would be to make it so that if you have a pit bull, it has to stay in your house and you can't have it just run around in the yard unsupervised.

I have a pit bull, and he's aggressive towards strangers I'll admit, but usually only if they come to our house. If we're at the dog park or something he really doesn't do anything to anyone. But I wouldn't have him there without anyone watching.

So yeah, I don't see why they can't just keep the pit bulls in the house where people can't be bothered by them.

If pitbulls could be trained, well it sure would take a lot of work to do so. And now let's compare this to the main issue at hand: Ohio banned pitbulls on their general aggressive behavior. You say that you can train them to be less aggressive. I'd infer then that the government would be more concerned about public safety, and that you can't rely on the fact that every pitbull owner would take the responsibility to train them to become tamer. Assuming this, safety overrules the ownership of pitbulls because they might be difficult to train and not every owner may bother training them. i.e. if it takes a high amount of maintenance to get pitbulls to become more tame, then such inconvenience would not assure the general public of safety.

So what if they can't be tamed fully? The point is that compared to other breeds of dogs, pit bulls are likely to be dangerously aggressive (level of aggression not safe for the general public). Sure, that young pit may be sweet at a year old (see above post), but that doesn't say anything to what the dog thinks about other people/strangers, especially when she grows older. Remember, the whole issue is regarding public safety, so we're not concerned that she's nice to the owner or close friends.

Well, to all of you people who think pits are mean, I have a pit, and she's the sweetest animal I've ever met! And trust me, I've met ALOT of really sweet aniamls. If you try to poke her, she just licks your finger. And she's a year old. So, I personally blame the owners that make them mean...
