Thank you for clearing up that forum thing for me.

Also, it wasn't just the egg thing that confused people, (though that's one of the major ones) there were also several combinations of lines that we interpreted as hints and deeper meanings toward them being related. (Though they're not full-blown "You guys are siblings, lol" so we just considered them implications.) It's kind of the same thing as how you guys see the deeper meaning in other lines that lean towards romance, but for certain others, they saw lines that leaned toward something familial. Since the lines all appear in the first game, we were stuck with the thought of them being siblings and thus couldn't see the lines in TEN as anything else.

Such as:
Spyro: "There was something in her eyes, Ignitus, something familiar."
Ignitus: "There should be, Spyro, you and Cynder share more than you know."

and

"She IS just like me."

There was also the similar treatment she got from Ignitus as a sort of concerned and supporting parent, like he showed for Spyro, but that's just a minor one.

In my opinion, if they weren't intending that kind of relationship I seriously think they should have thought some of those lines through so as to not have confused so many people, including the handheld makers, and gone through that whole mess. But that's just me.

Staff members on Sierra Forum have a specific kind of username. All the people who've been working on the games use it (as do one or two forum mods who are part of the design team for the websites). We know it's them because they sign on infrequently and all the information these people have given has been proved true by the games themselves (in the case of the talks with Mike, Eric and Chris).

As for the games themselves, in ANB it's sort of unclear. You can go either way on the issue: they came from the same group of eggs, therefore they must be related. Or, we don't know where the eggs came from, therefore they aren't related. Nothing was ever said that clarly indicates a sibling relationship between Spyro and Cynder, though, and there are no physical similarities between them. I think people get the sibling idea because, in this sort of story set-up, that's one of only two options for Cynder's role: she's either a sister or a love interest. Sparx's line about her being sexy is something of a giveaway about which role she is most likely to be in.

Just to make my own stance on all of this clear, I do support Spyro/Cynder, but I don't think they were romantic until sometime in/after DotD. They're just too young before then.

I will make it clear straight away that I know they aren't siblings, but I'm just saying there must have been some form of hinture that made people, even the guys in charge of making the handheld versions apparently, mistake them for siblings.

I have some friends that I let borrow A New Beginning that predicted them being siblings. (The conversation summarized from one of my friends: "*after saying what he thought of the game and story* Although I think it's cool that Spyro might have had a sister. Was the black dragon supposed to be his sister?" and I said "I dunno, maybe." I didn't know at that time either.) I've got an 11-year-old cousin that played it last year and also played The Eternal Night this year and still to this day is convinced that they are related because she doesn't go online to read up on it. Also, on this IRC chatroom I go to we were once discussing the look for Dawn of the Dragon, and during criticising the designs, this bit happened: (I've taken it straight from the log)

<Kazooie64> I can't stand Spyro's chest. Why is it so big?
<Jinjo_Eagle> His little girlfriend seems to sport one too. (This gal has never played these games.)
<RM_Trev> Um, isn't that supposed to his sister or whatever? Or am I thinking wrong? (He hasn't played the games and has only looked up information.)
<Jinjo_Eagle> oh, ew
<Tirlas> Trev, I think it's supposed to be his sister, yeah. (He's only played ANB.)
<Kazooie64> Um...
<Kazooie64> I don't know if I should wait until this game releases and expect hilarious reactions or I should mention it to you guys now
<TheNintenGenius> Stop sneaking cookies Kazooie

I also remember back when A New Beginning was released and The Eternal Night was still in production, that several people on message boards were wanting to support SpyroxCynder but were hesitant because of the possibility that they were related.

I'm just saying, even if others didn't see it, a lot of people took certain lines as pointing to a possible sibling outcome. So in some way, I still blame the console games for planting that possibility in my head.

PS. How did you guys know it was Chris Wilson that posted that? I'm not being stubborn and not believing you or anything, but I'm just curious to how you could tell him apart from someone that could have just signed up under his name. I've never been on those boards and all I've heard was "he posted a message on the Sierra forums" so I want some knowledge.

It was the intro to the GBA (or DS; I forget which handheld) version of TEN that had the goof about Cynder being Spyro's sister. Chris Wilson, one of the two main writers of LoS and a producer, signed onto Sierra to publically announce that Cynder and Spyro are in no way related. Amaze, the makers of the handheld LoS games, also announced that they'd made an error. So, no, they are not related, so sayeth the word of God (look it up on TV Tropes). End of story. Also, there is nothing in the console versions to suggest they are related, and console canon > handheld canon.

As for the Harry/Hermione thing, there were actually massive hints from book 2 that cemented the Harry/Ginny relationship and none to suggest Harry/Hermione (though a few to suggest Hermione/Ron). Any H/H moments in later books were JK Rowling messing with the obnoxious fans (book 7 was a riot because of that XD).

Evidence that suggest Spyro/Cynder is already canon:

Remember, this is based on movie cliches and the hero's journey (the epic story model), both things which LoS is hugely dependent upon for it's story arc (the producers have said they were aiming to make an epic video game that was like playing a movie). Most of the stuff comes from TEN.

Cynder's departure:
"Don't make this harder than it already is," is movie speak for "I love you and it hurts to leave but I'm leaving so I won't hurt you anymore."

"But I don't want you to go," is movie speak for "I love you. Don't leave me."

Then Spyro proceeds to go running after her (though he is waylaid by a cryptic vision and a need to save his friends; I applaud the game for balancing out the romance with decent story like that).

Cynder in the Chronicler's vision:
The fact that he saw her specifically is a sign that Spyro is thinking about Cynder.

Spyro's choice in the Chronicler's lair:
Yes, Spyro is going to the Mountain Fortress to save everyone else, but one has to note that his emphasis is on Cynder herself. That is movie speak (and epic story speak for) "I love this girl and I will let the world die if I might have a hope of saving her." Which he essentially was doing.

Couple all of this with the fact that she is the only female dragon we have seen in the entire series thus far and it makes at least me very suspicious. Also, there is the whole deal with Chris Wilson going out of his way to make sure everyone knows that these two aren't related. There is as well some symmetry between Spyro and Cynder (he knows a little bit of what she's been through thanks to his short time being possessed by darkness) and it all adds up to one thing: Spyro/Cynder is so totally canon and I will only believe it is not if Spyro himself tells her he's not interested and starts making out with someone else.

No need to argue this one with me. If you guys don't think SxC is canon, s'cool. This is just why I won't budge on the issue and why I support it (I always support canon couples, with a healthy group of crack pairings on the side just for fun ).

And, no, I am not on drugs. Just a mental disorder. Crack pairings/shippings refer to ships of characters that make no sense and are just done for the sheer silly fun of it (Elora/Gaul is one of my favorite crack ships, for instance; it doesn't exist and never will and, if it did, it would likely be very disturbing ).

Until I started browsing this forum and found out they weren't, I still considered them siblings all the way until the end of TEN. As soon as I found out they weren't meant to be siblings, I instantly thought "Welp. All we're missing is the romance, and who else do we have that can fit it? The fact that they went on a forum just to stress that they aren't related instead of leaving it up to our imaginations is a big hint. :\
