It's good to hear that someone else knows that there is a difference between hip hop and rap. Actually I think rap is one of the main "elements" of hip hop, along with beatboxing, that scratchy thing with records, and some other stuff.

Alright that's a point...
Blaqk Audio, one of my favorite duos/groups, has an album titled "CexCells". There are some rather...explicit things in it but I do love it very much. They are an electronica group.
BUT it's most rap that I hear on TV and commercials that's explicit, as well, even more than BA.

All that stuff isn't even reserved to just rap. There are pleanty of rock groups who are also guilty of objectifying women and swearing (but swearing isn't even really a point against it, it's a form of expression because without some words it's hard to describe just how gosh darned upset they make you), but people ignore those parts.

But most rock groups you hear on the radio just have a major case of pretentiousitis

i've heard swearing and drug use in the lyrics of non rap songs... does this mean all music is bad

rap makes people think they're "cool". theres a couple of rap songs i like, but honestly i think its just racism,swearing, sex and voilence strung together with a rythem.

Uh, he's stating FACTS. Facts to correct the misguided on what rap music really is, not telling people to like it.

I don't like rap, but I think there IS a general sense of ignorance to the genre for a lot of people, as Atresac said.

In my opinion, I dont think all rap is bad.
There ARE people who rap about politics and such, I had to do a project about the 1980's, and one of the things I had to do in it was about music...and I had a few rap songs in there, and one talked about racism.
I like ALL kinds of music, some may consider rap music and some dont. Just like some kids who listen to rap think all rock is is shouting and depressing crap, and people who listen to rock think all rap is is talking about...you know what. So really, no side wins.
When I'm in the mood to listen to rap, I listen to rap...when I want to listen to rock, I listen to rock. Sometimes I HATE listening to so much rock because all they do is scream about how much life is depressing (seriously, do I need to come home from a depressing day at school and listen to MORE depressing crap?), and sometimes I hate listening to rap because all they do is talk about the same thing (w/ a few exceptions but most of the time I'd like to listen to something that doesnt repeat itself so much) . Although this is all my opinion (and I normally dont tell my opinion because people like to bash on my opinion too much for stupid reasons) But whatever, I'll end here. >_>

I'm not trying to get them to like it. Honestly I don't care if people "like" it.

It's just the sheer ignorance that pretty much everyone on the forum displays. "It's not a real style of music," or "all they do is just swear the whole time and talk about drugs and guns". It's like "wow are you that much of an ingrate?"

I Dislike Rap, its not a type of music all they do is just swear and swear, mostly all you can here is Swear, Swear and Swear, not my kind of music, rap....is not a type of music

1) Are you kidding? They're speaking in pretty much a normal voice without any distortion to their voices. It's actually easier to understand than most rock music you hear on the radio these days.
