What? who said anything about Sparx giving Spyro his name? In T.L.o.S, it was Flash and Nina (Spyro's dragonfly parents) who named him, not Sparx.
I don't know about the Originals though.

yeah, they meant the original games, not ANB. We all know that Sparx's parents named them both

Yes, exactly. His dragonfly parents named him and he always believed he was a dragonfly. A big dragonfly with "weight issues"

There was a fanfic that said Spyro could talk to Sparx from inside his egg, and breathe fire. And Sparx had to "merge" with Spyro to get him to hatch, by going inside his egg through magical means of some sort of "meditation."
(In the story, Sparx gives him his name. It means "He who breathes Fire.")
