That's only one part of the definition of an empire. Now throw in economics, technology, ideology, religion, military, weaponry, and politics.
And Puerto Rico is a commonwealth. So they're not ruled directly by imperial governor.

A handful of countries, doesn't make an empire. Read about the history of empires and an 'American Empire' is never mentioned. (By the way I have nothing against America, I would love to live there. Its just its not an empire.) Even the English, French and German historys agree on that. (An I tell you what thats something!)

With all do respect America has never had an empire, it has never conquered any countries, its just been America. Any countries it has outside of the border were obtained by negotiation, which isn't an empire.

Because every world hyperpower has been an empire. (Not only reason) Think about it, there has been only a few ever: Roman Empire, British Empire, Persian Empire, American Empire. For some reason, every hyperpower slowly declines before it eventually falls. The Romans were around for near 1000 years. The last 200 were in slow decline. The Romans nearly perfected their empire but it eventually fell. America has too many enemies to last forever. (Iran, Russia, North Korea, Afganistan)

Is there even any point in being an empire nowadays? I have got an overall thought that each empire was the best at some point or another at some thing. Any empires like the ones in history are likely to end up starting a war. Quite frankly I for one don't want anymore of those.

I think the roman empire. they controlled alot of the world and they lasted along time.

The Romans didn't copy Greek gods. The Romans descended from the greeks. Most of the Roman gods just have different names.

This is a gory sentence about the Assyrian Empire.

Mm, yeah they were.
They were very brutal in punishment and even quite gruesome.
They also had several very corrupt and insane emperors.
I don't remember if it was before the Holy Roman Empire or not, but they persecuted many people who didn't believe in the Roman Gods.
