Dreamcast was a great console but it never stood a chance because of some factors...
1. Playstation 1 and new ps2.
2. Sega Saturn's failure
3. Sega 32x, cdx and, sega cd failures.
4. Bad reptutation with 3rd party developers
5. no dvd player

= doomed dreamcast dreamcast could have been great, it was better than its competetors and the first to go online. Sadly there will never again be a console called the Sega Infinty or anything else....

I would have loved to see a new Alex The Kid, Alex The Kid on sega megadrive was so good.

Sega is dead as a manufacturer there will be no more sega consoles, dreamcast just couldnt compete with ps2. Dreamcast was doomed

Umm, how to say this. Sega has.... kind... fallen from the ranks. Their ideas ARE being continued, just by other companies. They aren't going to suddenly come back with a new system

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have all made new systems but what about Sega, They have not released anything since the dreamcast.......
I recone they will bust out with a new console in the next year and cause they would have learned from Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, Hopfully there console will blow them all out of the water........

I don't know if US PS3s can play all PS1 and PS2 games, but I know that we PAL players are a lot worse off in that department.

Smooth, not.

I really don't think that they're going to stop being the unstopable force on the gaming field for a while now. If someone does manage to sdo so, they'd have to be able to take down a company with over a decade of experience. Which in itself is an imense feat.

My reasoning for this seems to be that the games for the GameCube seem to cater for a wider audience. Heck, not even the PlayStation lineup seems to be as "mainstream" as it once were, at least at this moment in time. And let's not forget it also gets a headstart with backwards compatability with ALL GameCube games, so that means a wider library right from the offset.

I see your point rexy, but my point is that even though they need new francises they are on a path to reclaim their former glory, and no one seems to be able to stop them. Nintendo is the only game company that survived over the years (atari was defeated by sony, and sega was defeated by sony) nintendo has already surpassed the xbox 360 in sales as of august 23rd and 360 was released ahead of wii by a year, this holiday nintendo of america says and unpredecented amont of wii's will flood the market this holiday season, wii sales will skyrocket, my question is if anyone can stop them, 360 and ps3 are being flattened by wii sales worldwide (8-1 ratio) if anyone can who will?

While I would support most of your argument, my idea of a more "impressive" line-up is a lineup that isn't primarily dominated by franchises started in the 1980s (Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc). That's why I evaded the GameCube like the plague.

Ok lets not turn this into an arguement, i meant CAN ANYONE create a console that can beat a nintendo handheld, i mean ds is about to pass the Super Nintendo and thats incredible can anyone stop them. it is obvious that psp cannot catch up and its the only competion, wii, even if it isnt as great is making nintendo millions, microsoft has lost 5 BILLION on xbox sony is losing 350 dollars on each ps3 sold. we might be entering another nintendo era, i mean it has the most impressive line up other than ps3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will outsell Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Metriod Prime 3, Mario and Sonic at the olympic games, Wii fit, wii music, and mariokart wii.

So? I don't care if the Wii is a cheaper option or has a different control scheme; the fact is that when I get one, I'm going to like their game selection a LOT more than what Sony and Microsoft would come up with together on their consoles. Plus, Gamecube backwards compatability gives them a jump start as well when you have the urge to replay any oldies.
