More advise, if you don't care for the windows store/cortana at all. Look into removing "SearchUI" from your computer (Saves you a bit of ram (50mb ~), cortana will never autorun in task manager again) BUT you will lose the functionality from the search bar unless you know how to type the program in directly.

They can have good luck spying on me considering I broke the metro app system (On purpose, deleted some of its dependencies along with Cortana AKA SearchUI.exe and Microsoft Edge) and deleted not only using powershell but physically deleted the applications from the WindowsApps folder in the Windows folder. I would go through everything else I have done but then I would probably write an essay xP
Bottom line is really people should not have to go to this extent to disable the crap, I know that for a fact.

Thank you for sharing Swaffy, I am really disappointed in Microsoft for the privacy issue (among other things that don't really relate to the topic at hand) so I appreciate the guide on how to get around it. I'm not currently using any Windows machines, my desktop's hard drive is fried, but once I get it fixed I'll definitely make sure I do all this

There was a moment with my laptop during winter, when the system tried to initiate the Win 10 install by preparing a download trigger. Should I have ignored it it would've begun installing, but I managed to stop it.

I did download Win 10 on that same laptop eventually to test it out before I considered getting it for my desktop computer. As per my 'PC Unplugged' teacher's instructions, I went through a custom install than an automated one. You can't believe how many functions I had to uncheck, but basically that should've stopped all the spying. Most of the unchecked functions were various sorts of data getting sent to Microsoft.

I do believe most of the spying can be avoided if you just check what you're agreeing to.

I voluntarily upgraded from 7 to 10 before I heard about this and I'm definitely regretting it.

Microsoft bought out the mobile keyboard app I use, SwiftKey, which I think is super creepy. They couldn't possibly care about the theme store sales, so they must find it valuable for some other reason, like using people's typing habits to target advertising to them or something along those lines.

Beware. I'm starting to hear about Microsoft spying on its users through the OS and its programs/services. I also heard about forced Win 10 installations from people who didn't want it. I'm still running Win 7, which I prefer, but after watching this video I can only expect a forced (without permission) installation of Win 10, and Win 10 has stuff in it which I don't want and I run older programs that might not be compatible.

This video is about 35 min long but if you are running Win 10 then you should really consider taking the time to watch.

[alt link]
