I don't frequent anime conventions, so I didn't know this kind of thing happened regularly, lol. It would be weird for me if I didn't know the person. Honestly I would probably be on a spectrum from disturbed to flattered, depending on the person doing the hugging.

Oh, this reminds me of a story.

I was at the arcade playing DDR when a guy came over to watch. And by "watch" I mean yell from behind the machine monitor while I was trying to concentrate on a tough song. When I finished the song he tried to start a conversation. You're really good, how do you do that, all the typical stuff from someone who's never seen a pro player and can't tell the difference between that and my level of play. Anyway, he then went in for a hug. I hugged back like an idiot because I'm socially awkward like that and never came up with a plan for what to do when hugged by a random dude. So then I guess he gets the idea that I like him and starts flirting so obviously that even I could tell what his intentions were.

Yeah, not a big fan of random hugs.

I hate people asking to hug me (or even worse, hugging without asking) when they don't even know me. It has only ever happened to me at cons but I really hate it

i would hug them. i don't find it awkward or really bad or anything. it'd just be a little outside my comfort zone. then again, talking to strangers is also outside my comfort zone, so whatever.

Well i guess if its family you haven't seen for a while or if you go far away that its then considered normal. Nah i think its the same rule where i live. I doubt anyone would be... Oh yeah. It will probably be like "dude go away" like really awkward.

Haha, this reminds me of Spyrochat from a while back.

In the US it's considered pretty weird to hug strangers, but from what I've heard it's not so weird in some other countries.
