Hm, I'm not sure why that would be happening. Probably would be something to do with how your browser handles cookies. I can't remember having unread posts marked as read unless I ended my session in some way.

hm... conversely, if i leave SpyroForum (not signing out or clearing cookies or closing my browser) and then come back, all of the new posts come up as read, even though i didn't actually read all of them. is this an actual problem, or just how cookies work? i'm guessing it's the latter.

Yes, this happens to everyone. It'll also happen if you close and reopen your browser very quickly. Flapjacks seems to be right about the cause.

It would be quite a lot of work to fix a pretty minor issue. First I would have to track down where these specific cookies are being made in thousands and thousands of lines of code, which would be a huge task in itself since I would have no idea where to even begin looking for them. I would also have to add some server side stuff to handle this functionality instead, which could make things a bit slower. And I would have to make sure that this major modification of core software doesn't break anything else.

I've just learned to live with the slight annoyance this can cause. Or just stick to one device per visit to Spyroforum, and when you're done, close it and leave it closed.

I'm guessing it stores which new posts you'd see in that device's cookies, so for it to do what you are asking would require the site to store this info, which I think would require a lot of pretty unnecessary work on Stormy or SR's part.

So, I log into my account on my computer and either post a new message or read the newest messages. Then, 30 seconds later, I use my iPhone and log in on THAT. Either my new posts come up as "New Posts" or read messages come up as "New Posts." You think you can fix that, Stormy?
